The Rehearsal (2022)
Kaufman-esque
I know I'm probably the millionth person to say this but this is the most Charlie Kaufman-esque show I have ever seen in my life. The show is really introspective. Reminded so much of Synechdoche, New York, Adaptation, Being John Malkovich and even other films like Eternal Sunshine and I'm Thinking of Ending things. Especially when it came to the idea of a character viewing themselves through the eyes of another person or trying to view experience in that way. It's something that Charlie Kaufman loves exploring and I loved seeing Nathan Fielder's take on it.
Dead of Night (1974)
Dead of Night is a better title
I liked the last scene. The whole movie is not the best but the imagery of the last scene and the last lines stick with me.
Threads (1984)
A True Horror Film
I have a brother-in-law who you'd often find asking anyone and everyone at a party when he's had one too many about nuclear weapons. He says very earnestly that he often lies awake so many nights worrying and afraid. He spouts statistics about how there's enough nuclear weapons to eradicate all life on earth many times over. It upsets him that other people don't have that fear and that they can sleep perfectly fine either knowing and not caring enough or not knowing and still not caring. I know that threats loom over us every day and though I feel his fear is appropriate and I understand it, I myself do not share it. I tell him that I don't worry because I'm certainly not going to do anything about it and if a nuclear bomb is to be dropped in our town I hope it lands right over our house and on my bed. Now I'm not a suicidal person and I'm certainly not nihilistic and I worry about our children and our future and I love my family more than anything. However, sometimes I feel like "let 'em blow it up". Let 'em destroy everything that's beautiful in this world because we don't appreciate it anyhow. If the world is destroyed we will have proven that we are capable of everything that we have convinced ourselves we are not. So love one another and have the best life you can live because when everything is inevitably ashes all the possessions and titles we work so hard for will have meant nothing. The only thing that will have mattered was each other and the moments we shared. So I told my brother-in-law, "Man if you're scared of nuclear weapons now, wait 'til you watch Threads". A nuclear attack wiping us all out doesn't scare me, the sun will do that for us anytime soon it's surviving a nuclear attack that's terrifying. Threads isn't subtle in its delivery of it's message and it's message is simple; it's a warning. And it has a very real basis that makes it all the more effective and a true horror film.
