Ivalo (2018)
Glimpse of Finland
Found series fascinating. Binged watched, couldn't help myself. A short glimpse into, to me, a little known country. Had a student with Finnish roots, very bright, inquisitive child. Characters interesting, plot engaging....hard to second guess. Amazed at physical beauty of the northern country...gives new insight to the people who live, work, bring up families in arctic conditions. Also shows our human biases to unknown diseases. Quite a lot packed into one movie series. I am glad to have had the opportunity to view, through the sets, characterizations, a people and country I knew so little about. Thank you.
Gloria (2021)
Vive la France!
Watched GLORIA and KEEPING FAITH side by side. While both actresses were great, Cecile Bois added more passion and believability. Both were based on same story. Even the hateful detective in French version was one you detested. There was more action and depth to Gloria. It certainly kept my interest and attention. Home life a bit more revealing in Gloria. Couldn't wait for next episode...gripping, and emotionally invested. Interesting experience to view each side by side, so to speak. Countryside in each breathtaking....makes one desire to visit each area. Clothes in both what one would expect...houses by the sea would make anyone envious. Great insight in both judicial systems, though compared to American fewer inalienable rights. Look forward to further episodes of
Gloria.

De La tour a tour de force.
Enjoyable....useless to compare to other versions. Should stand on own merits. Cast brings own uniqueness......try it.
The Farmer's Daughter (1947)
Progressive Hollywood
Even as far back as 1947 the progressive left agenda is inserted: social justice and Woodrow Wilson...too bad it didn't make an impact when I first watched this movie in 1947...good movie but insinuations not subtle...Enjoyed Miss Barrymore, grande dame of both stage and screen...Ms. Young was terrific, as was the supporting staff,ie, the butler...even then the corruption of this city was and is known...makes an impact of the danger of one party in power too long...the attention to detail in the props, the costuming is outstanding...the patronizing tone, the attempt to shut down debate are all too reminiscent of present times...if we neglect the errors of the past it is too easy to repeat our mistakes...surprised this movie is not required for film studies to pour over for relevance.
