Shadow and Bone (2021)
First season was better
I rated the first season 8/10 but I give the second season 6/10. I was looking forward to the second season but I was disappointed. For some reason someone in charge decided to take a unique story and make it more like a hundred other shows by adding more gore, more romance, some foul language, and a lot more really really long "emotional" scenes that add nothing to the plot. Wasn't the first season a success? There's also stuff later on that makes NO sense... Without giving anything away, the prison is a mess and the last episode should be trimmed by almost half. Obviously they're setting up for another season but I have no interest at all in seeing any more.
Warcraft (2016)
To be continued?!
I went into this with low expectations but watched it anyway because I used to play the original Warcraft and I was curious. I found myself liking it enough: some good main characters on both sides, and interesting plot. It got me rooting for two main characters especially but then one of them was killed off. Around that time I started getting frustrated with the story. Scenes drag out hoping to increase tension or anticipation but made me impatient instead and ultimately unsatisfied. The way the movie ends is especially frustrating...
I don't want to give any spoilers but I do want to warn viewers that this has a complete "to be continued" ending, like The Fellowship of the Ring. But in The Fellowship you know there are two more parts and the books are very well known. Where is part two of Warcraft? Did they make this assuming they would make another or was it aimed at just superfans of Warcraft? They could have made a more satisfying ending while still leaving the viewer wanting more, like countless other movies.
Blown Away: Runway Walk (2021)
Unbelievable
I would give this episode 0 stars if not for the other three contestants and THEIR WORK!
Blown Away: Name That Toon (2021)
BS
Chris says he doesn't do goofy but in the previous challenge he made his goblet a sippy cup!
14-18 (1963)
The Concise History of WW1
I have seen many documentaries about war and this one is different. The script is somewhat poetic and it doesn't give one side's perspective. Instead it speaks with the perspectives of everyone involved, captured by one actor's voice. It doesn't analyze what happened but effectively gives the viewer a sense of what each government and its people were thinking at different points of the war, using real footage from the countries involved.
It is not as detailed as other documentaries but it is, after all, covering the entire war in about an hour and a half.
Hercules (1997)
Hey mythology lovers, get a grip!
I have seen many Disney movies, animated and not, and this one has more action than most, has no cute animals and is more humorous (ala Aladdin) than a typical Disney movie--Pixar films not included. This one also has a male lead (no princesses). If you are looking for typical Disney fare, then you may not appreciate this one. We enjoyed it thoroughly--from 4 to 40 years of age, male and female.
As for all the criticism regarding the liberties Disney took with Greek mythology, get a grip. I love Greek mythology too but hey, IT'S FICTION! It's not historical fact. Even the ancient tales themselves are not consistent, containing contradictions. There were many authors. But the characters are interesting, and Disney used some of them to create a good story for kids about an outcast looking for his place in life. It also explores what makes a hero a true hero (perhaps the more useful lesson of the movie). Yes, it's a shame they took so many liberties with this picture but it still encourages interest in Greek myth. Don't believe me? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were not historically accurate either but they got kids interested in the Old Masters!
