For a guy who admits he doesn’t enjoy the hassle of going through airport security and the inevitable inconveniences of international travel, Eugene Levy has been getting around quite a bit lately.
The actor, writer and Schitt’s Creek Emmy winner hopscotches throughout Europe – Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Scotland and more – in the second season of his nonfiction series The Reluctant Traveler, now streaming on Apple TV+. As the title of the series suggests, he’s not a “Heck yeah, I’m up for anything!” kind of guy, and part of the charm of the show is seeing him tiptoe beyond his comfort zone.
Levy joins the latest edition of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast to discuss what he’s learned about the world and himself while making the show, which is in contention for Emmy consideration. He also explains what finally convinced him to sign onto the series after he turned it down initially.

In season two of his Apple docuseries The Reluctant Traveler, Eugene Levy explores parts of Europe that may be overlooked for bigger, more well-known cities.
Instead of Madrid or Barcelona, he visits Andalusia, Spain. The Schitt’s Creek star forgoes Mykonos or Santorini for life on the tiny Greek island of Milos. He finds himself in Sylt, Germany, as opposed to major cities like Berlin or Munich.
Ahead of each season, the Reluctant Traveler production team scouts out possible locations for the Emmy-winning actor, comedian and nervous globe-trotter to visit. Together with Levy, they decide what places would be the most fun and meaningful, and go from there. The team often visits each place multiple times to find out who Levy will be interacting with, what he’s going to do and how he’s going to dive into a new culture.

Eugene Levy admitted he’s looking at the future of his acting career and believes retirement may not be too far away.
The 77-year-old actor-comedian, who had a career resurgence in the past decade thanks to the comedy series Schitt’s Creek, recently opened up to The Independent about potentially stepping back from acting sooner rather than later.
“I’m not afraid of retirement,” Levy confessed. “I love it when I have nothing on the agenda, I really do. I love getting up and the only big decision is where to go for lunch. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
The Reluctant Traveler host explained that he’s not seeking out any long-term projects, but rather ones that better align with his current schedule and require fewer time commitments.

Hollywood, California – March 08: Eugene Levy is honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame timed to the global premiere of Apple TV+’s “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy” on March 08, 2024 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Eric Charbonneau/Getty Images for Apple TV+) Considering it took him until he was 30 years old to get his first TV role, as a regular player on the sketch show Sctv, Eugene Levy seemed like he would be an unlikely candidate for a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Yet, sure enough, at the age of 77, he’s achieved that honor after achieving both fame and acclaim in the American Pie movies, Christopher Guest’s series of mockumentary films, and, of course, the Emmy Award-winning comedy Schitt’s Creek Currently starring in his own reality series, The Reluctant Traveler, Levy talked about what it means for him to be honored with his Walk of Fame star.

American Pie and Schitt’s Creek alum Eugene Levy has recently taken his trademark glasses on the road to visit some of the world’s most desirable and interesting locations with his docuseries The Reluctant Traveler, which begins its second season today and takes him all across Europe. Though Levy still defines himself as a person who doesn’t like to travel, he admits he enjoyed at least some moments on his various trips. “I don’t think I would ever travel for fun. I just truly, deep down … it’s the arc of travel that I’m still not totally encompassing. I just really don’t like the airport experience,” Levy says, of his continuing reluctance. “There’s too much about it, but then I’m going on.” Still, there were some memorable moments, and perhaps even a few enjoyable ones, such as visiting the area of Scotland his mother hails from,...

The premise of The Reluctant Traveler is a simple one. There’s a traveler and he’s reluctant, you see. But’s he’s also much more than that.
That’s because the titular reluctant traveler in this Apple TV+ docuseries is none other than comedy legend Eugene Levy. Levy’s prolific career has spanned decades – from his time on the Canadian sketch series Sctv to his many roles in Christopher Guest’s collection of mockumentaries to his most recent Emmy award-winning portrayal of Johnny Rose in Schitt’s Creek, the sitcom created by his son Dan Levy. Through all of these onscreen adventures, however, Levy never quite caught the travel bug. The Reluctant Traveler season 1 sought to rectify that by forcing him into locales like Costa Rica, Italy, Japan, and more.

Does the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour still hold value?
That topic was a frequent debate at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California, where the TCA winter press tour wrapped Thursday after two weeks and a dizzying number of panels featuring stars, producers and the occasional executive.
TCA can still bring out the big stars (Apple had Michael Douglas, Hulu delivered Jon Bon Jovi, and Annette Bening and Snoop Dogg were highlights at NBCU) but the real value — aside from showcasing programming to a shrinking press corps that has been overwhelmed by Peak TV — comes from executive sessions that can help lay out a platform strategy that many will cover for months on end.
Before we get into the biggest takeaways from TCA, allow us to make an appeal to Netflix, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global to return to press tour. Yes, we know it’s...

For anyone who grew up with Sctv, it’s been incredibly heartening to see Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara hit stardom in their winter years thanks to “Schitt’s Creek.” Everyone who grew up with them knew they were superstars; it’s only that the world discovered them much, much later. Regardless, the success of that show has launched them both, and for Levy, it’s spawned his own travelogue show, “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” centered on his lifelong disinclination to travel and leave the comfort of his home.

Exclusive: Schitt’s Creek alum Eugene Levy is heading to Summer Camp. The four-time Emmy winner will play Diane Keaton’s love interest in the comedy also set to star Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard.
Castille Landon (After franchise) is directing the film, which is heading into production next month in North Carolina, from her own script. It tells the story of Nora, Ginny and Mary, who have been best friends since childhood, spending their summers together inseparably at sleepaway camp. As the years have passed, they’ve seen each other less and less, so when the chance for a summer camp reunion arises, they all take it, some begrudgingly and others excitedly. Bad news for any comedy fan hoping Christopher Guest might get his troupe back together for another mockumentary movie. Guest and actors such as Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Jane Lynch and more popularized the fake documentary format with comedy classics such as “Best in Show,” “A Mighty Wind” and “Waiting for Guffman.” Guest even co-wrote and acted in perhaps the most famous mockumentary of all time, 1984’s “This Is Spinal Tap.” Yet Levy recently told The Guardian that another mockumentary from the Guest troupe is unlikely.
“No, I don’t think it will happen,” Levy said. “Our last one was ‘For Your Consideration’ back in 2006. Our fake documentaries — Chris always hated the term ‘mockumentary’ because we’re not mocking, it’s more affectionate than that — but they were getting a little cookie-cutter in terms of story. In 2023, no TV show ever truly ends. Any cancellation can be undone by a rival streaming service looking to gain an edge, and a planned finale often just signifies a pause until it’s time to make a lucrative reboot. Everything from decade-long hiatuses to the deaths of major cast members can be overcome in the name of producing more content.
So when an acclaimed series like “Schitt’s Creek” comes to a close, it’s only a matter of time before fans start speculating about when they’ll see their favorite characters again. This weekend sees the return of some high-quality shows – one of which is back from a hiatus that began in 2010 – and the debut of some new ones. And “The Last of Us” is nearing the end of its world-conquering Season 1 run. This Sunday’s episode is one of the season’s best. But our top pick for an awards-contending show to stream this weekend is a sports docuseries that’s entering long-running institution territory, as far as streaming shows go.

Following in the footsteps of the British series An Idiot Abroad, The Reluctant Traveler put a comedic spin on the reality travel genre. On the show, Eugene Levy (who is also the show’s executive producer) finds himself playing tourist in a new location in each episode. As the show’s title suggests, though, Levy is not particularly fond of traveling, and his wariness and weariness show on the screen. When we spoke to Levy, he told us it’s not an act — he really is a reluctant traveler. Schitt’s Creek introduced a whole new generation to Eugene Levy. He’d been a comedy legend since Second City and its ‘80s variety show Sctv. Plus, Levy always popped up in memorable roles in movies, like Jim’s Dad in the American Pie series. Levy admits Schitt’s Creek was nerve-wracking, but his new show, The Reluctant Traveler is even more so.

20th Century and Hulu unveiled the trailer for “Boston Strangler,” the true-crime thriller about the journalists who cracked the case of the infamous 1960s murders.
Keira Knightley stars as Loretta McLaughlin, a reporter for the Record-American newspaper who strikes out on her own when her sexist superiors get in the way of her investigation. She’s joined by her colleague Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) in her quest to uncover the truth.
At the top of the trailer, Loretta makes a connection between three murders that occurred within two weeks of each other, but her boss (Chris Cooper) tells her, “You’re on the lifestyle desk. You’re not covering a homicide.”
When she’s told she doesn’t have a story, Loretta asks: “How many women have to die before it’s a story?”

“Most people hosting a travel show want to do it. They have a sense of adventure. They love doing it. That’s not me,” says Eugene Levy in this exclusive behind-the-scenes trailer for the new Apple TV+ docuseries, “The Reluctant Traveler,” which premieres globally on Friday, Feb. 24.
“It’s not as easy as sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn,” he says of trips that take him to the Maldives, the jungles of Costa Rica and the Arctic Circle. “I could not be more out of my comfort zone.”
The eight-episode series also sees him traveling to Finland, Italy, Japan, Portugal and South Africa, where he partakes in anxiety-inducing activities including looking for poisonous snakes, riding a horse, dog sledding, ice fishing and crossing a narrow rope bridge.

Schitt’s Creek co-creator Eugene Levy has opened up about revealing his authentic, non-adventurous side in Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler, which he said gave him “a sense of confidence.”
In The Reluctant Traveler, which debuts on Friday, Levy is taken out of his comfort zone as he travels the world visiting dangerous places and partaking in activities such as taking a stool sample from an elephant.
Reluctant Traveler EP David Brindley revealed that himself, Apple and Levy’s agent had initially wanted Levy to front a more traditional travelog but pivoted the idea somewhat to suit his reluctance to traverse the globe.
“You constantly strive for authenticity in TV so the show we originally pitched would never have worked,” said Brindley, who is Chief Creative Officer of ITV Studios-backed Reluctant Traveler producer Twofour. “We had to build this around Eugene’s authentic experience.”

‘The Reluctant Traveler’ made Eugene Levy a dogsled driver
The premise of The Reluctant Traveler is that Levy would not go anywhere unless Apple made him. Finland included some frigid activities that were not Levy’s favorite, but he couldn’t deny driving a dogsled was unique. Given how warmly his human colleagues feel about him, it’s no surprise Levy got alone with canines.
