Exclusive: Patricia Heaton is returning to television — and to filming in front of a live studio audience — with a guest-starring arc in the second season of Paramount+ Frasier.
On the followup to the Emmy-winning comedy, she will play Holly who is down-to-earth, unpretentious, and openly mocking of overly-intellectual types. A Boston native who tends bar at upscale restaurants and events, Holly is extraordinarily comfortable with both who and where she is in life, a quality that the always-climbing, always-reaching Frasier (Grammer) finds as alien as he does attractive.
This marks a reunion for sitcom royalty Heaton and Grammer, who headlined the 2007 Fox multi-camera comedy Back to You, created by Modern Family‘s Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd. Grammer subsequently guest starred on Heaton’s CBS show Carol’s Second Act; with the Emmy-winning stars playing exes both times.

In February 2020, the Modern Family alum shared a 2019 throwback of herself all bouncy curls and in vacay mode, modeling a minuscule glitter bikini in gold and drawing attention to her massive hoop earrings via her caption. Sarah, 33, stunned makeup-free as she flaunted her slender figure, but it looks like she wanted fans eyeing up her jewelry. The post has now earned over 290,000 likes. Ariel Winter proved as popular as ever in a summer photo reposted to a fan account on Instagram in June 2017. The sitcom star, 26, was clearly enjoying her photo shoot as she soaked up rays from a lawn, but with a hose in her hand, she had all the tools she needed to keep cool. Heating things up as she flaunted her figure in a tight swimsuit, Ariel flaunted her curves in a stylish green one-piece, going strapless as she rocked kitten heels and even matched her hair tie to her swimwear. Ariel, who remains active on Instagram since Modern Family ended in 2020, doesn't post in a swimsuit too often, so this shot was likely a treat for fans.

“We wanted to create a unique world that the audience bought into and lived in the reality of this character,” explains Armando Salas, the Cuban-born cinematographer for the six-part Netflix biographical crime drama “Griselda.” “We wanted people to feel absorbed into the world of Griselda Blanco.” That world looks as if it was filmed in Miami in 1978, found 46 years later and put on the air when in fact it was shot primarily in Long Beach, California in 2022. The washed-out period details and tone mirror the era when Blanco – a Colombian mother who transformed herself into a drug “queenpin” – ruled Miami as one of the first cartel leaders to bring cocaine to the United States. The limited series stars Sofia Vergara of “Modern Family” fame in her first dramatic role. “We spent a lot of time thinking about the look and feel, something based on reference material but that was our...

Some folks prefer to spend their TV hours soaking up procedural dramas.
Others prefer a soapy historical fiction.
As for me, I will die on the hill that the mockumentary-style sitcom is the best genre on television.
There's no way to discuss every masterpiece, so we'll focus on a few examples of mockumentary shows.
Why do they work?
Let me count the ways. First, it's the absence of the fourth wall for me.
There's something special about creating a universe with characters and ever-so-slightly unrealistic situations and making your audience feel like they're part of it.
Take The Office, for example. When Jim looks directly into the camera after Michael or someone says something absurd, we get to be in on the joke.
Instead of being spectators stuck on the other side of the screen, it's like we're transported into the bullpen, nodding in understanding as Jim stares down the lens.

With a mission wholly unique at the time, make money while inspiring social change through entertainment, Participant Media managed to rewrite the rules of Hollywood during its all too short 20-year run. The studio singlehandedly proved to the world that you can produce unbelievably great films that have an impact, and audiences will go see them. Most studios and filmmakers working today owe a debt of gratitude to Jeff Skoll and his team of visionaries. That’s why the announcement that the studio will be shutting its doors felt like a gut punch, especially at a time when Hollywood is feeling a bit limp and lifeless.
Amidst the backdrop of faltering democracies, news and information channels that appear polarized, a marathon pandemic, and the proliferation of streaming, entertainment media still stands king as a unifier, capable of bringing together broad swathes of audiences. Cameron Diaz officially left Hollywood back in 2014, but she has seemingly changed her mind. Back in the day, the actress made her final appearance in a musical comedy film Annie where she starred alongside Jamie Foxx.
Ironically enough, Diaz’s first ever movie in 10 years will show her partnering once again with Foxx in Netflix’s upcoming spy action film.
Cameron Diaz’s big comeback to the screens will be featured in the streaming’s movie Back in Action. The title gives quite a big hint at the main plot twist as the movie follows two former CIA agents Emily and Matt who, after having left their careers beside, decide to start a family.
Realizing that their cover was suddenly blown, the characters are called back in action that roughly thwarted their plans.

During the aptly named Golden Age of Television, it seemed that representation on television for the LGBTQ+ community was improving.
More network shows started to embrace not just token gay characters, but well-written storylines centered around LGBTQ+ leads.
Even for relatively progressive shows, it took a long time to get there.
Grey's Anatomy, for example, showcased gay and transgender characters in its earliest seasons by weaving them into the series' medical cases.
But it wasn't until Season 4, when Callie Torres realized she was bisexual, that a main character on the show was recognized as LGBTQ+.
Don't get me wrong, we rarely saw perfect gay relationships on the screen. Glee gave us Kurt, Blaine, Santana, and Brittany.
Modern Family had Cam and Mitchell. Grey's Anatomy's Callie and Arizona made history on network television.
Most of these shows ended as the years went on.

Netflix has given an official order to the Happy Gilmore sequel recently teased as being in the works, Deadline has confirmed.
The streamer made the announcement during its Upfront presentation on Wednesday, confirming that Adam Sandler is set to return as the golfer that gives the classic comedy its name. No word of a logline or other attachments for the moment.
Actor Christopher McDonald, who played Gilmore’s pro golfer nemesis Shooter McGavin, was first to get word out about the project with comments made in March. Netflix was a natural destination for it, given Sandler’s longtime deal with the streamer, which has seen him produce and star in titles like The Ridiculous Six, Murder Mystery and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, among others.

When we think about the world’s richest actors, Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise are the names we cannot just skip. However, many would be surprised to know that the richest actor in the world has not been an active face in the industry for now. Eric Newman was the showrunner for the Netflix series “Narcos” in 2015 when Sofia Vergara – then in the middle of her run starring as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the multiple Emmy-winning comedy “Modern Family” – invited him to her home to pitch him on the idea of her fronting a project where she portrayed the Colombian drug “queenpin” Griselda Blanco. “Obviously I knew her work and was a fan of hers,” Newman recalls. “I also knew she (Vergara) was Colombian, which is an important distinction. And I knew a lot about Griselda Blanco and was fascinated with her as a character. I felt that if Sofia was willing to take the risk…just the thought that she was interested in doing this was appealing. So I went into the meeting very excited and hopeful that I would be met with a level of passion and conviction that would help make my decision very easy – and I was.

Looking at the crop of new scripted series selected by the broadcast networks for 2024-25, one cannot help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of what may have been broadcast television’s greatest season ever.
The 2004-05 season introduced several genre-defying series — all but one based on original ideas — whose impact on TV storytelling is still being felt: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Office and Veronica Mars. Remarkably, one of them, Grey’s Anatomy is still around, having just been renewed by ABC for Season 21, along with another show that premiered that same season, animated comedy American Dad!.
Aside from the fact that the current economic realities of the TV business will likely never support another drama going to 21 seasons, broadcast networks will also likely never take chances on so many unconventional ideas: a sci-fi drama on a deserted island that set the tone for modern genre fare, a...

Sofia Vergara is hardly the first person you would think of when deciding to cast the role of a real-life cartel boss (or “queenpin”). The actress who co-starred for 11 seasons as the feisty Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on “Modern Family” – a role that earned her four consecutive Emmy nominations – certainly had comedy chops to spare. But after watching the 2006 documentary “Cocaine Cowboys” and seeing a profile of Griselda Blanco, Vergara felt an odd kinship with the kidnapping, murdering drug lord who wreaked untold misery while bringing cocaine to Miami in the 1980s. “I wanted to do more acting and was looking for someone that I felt I could (portray) because I don’t have any acting training,” Vergara explains. “That’s how I found Griselda. Not that I would kill anyone, or sell drugs, of course. But like her, I am Colombian, I’m a woman, a mother, I’m an immigrant.

It’s that time of year again that we celebrate the ladies who brought us into this world, raised us and inspired us to be the people we have become. It seems all the more significant during this time in which moms have been spending a lot more time with their kiddos.
It would be interesting to see how some of our favorite tv moms would have handled quarantine, or if some kids would actually be “safer at home” with some of these moms. It’s quite likely that if Malcolm and his brothers didn’t blow the house up out of sheer boredom, Lois’s screaming would have brought the place down. It’s doubtful that Marie Barone could have maintained social distancing, and not popped over to criticize Debra’s latest meal or endeavor while continuing to spoil Raymond. Sofía Vergara is expanding on her reasoning for not wanting to have any more kids at this point in her life.
The Griselda star sat down with People for its cover this week and opened up about how in dating, following her split from Joe Manganiello, someone wanting more kids was a dealbreaker for her. Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston are set to walk a Tightrope! for the Roku Channel.
The two Emmy winners are teaming up for a comedic reworking of a short-lived detective drama from the late 1950s (exclamation point very much included). Burrell will star in and executive produce the six-episode series, while Cranston is an executive producer.
Roku made the announcement Tuesday at its newfronts presentation to advertisers, where it also showcased upcoming programming including a travel series from Tracee Ellis Ross, culinary competition Best Bite Wins hosted by Josh Peck and a talk show from John Cena, among others.
