The influence of South Indian cinema on Hindi over the years had gradually increased to a whole new level today. In the 90s you simply got accustomed to faces like Nagarjuna and Rajnikanth whose films without fail got dubbed in Hindi. However, come the millennium and the selling of your remake rights and the subsequent acquiring of it by a maker in Hindi cinema has become one of the most prominent business transactions in Indian cinema. We are no longer satisfied with dubbed versions of their films nor are many of the Si makers looking to release such versions of their films.
The idea of remakes allows for the story to be adapted into a new setting to be marketed to a new audience after being customised for their needs. Why risk an original script that may not work when you’ve got a blockbuster script at your disposal that...

Movie Review: 'Oh My Friend'; Producer: Dil Raju; Direction: Venu Sriram; Music: Rahulraj; Star Cast: Siddharth, Shruti Haasan, Navadeep, Hansika, Thanikella Bharani, Ali and others; Rating: **1/2 - Stale story ruins it.
After a gap of five years, actor Siddharth and producer Dil Raju have teamed up again in 'Oh My Friend'. Earlier, Raju had produced 'Bommarillu', starring Siddharth and Genelia D'Souza, and it was a super-hit. Naturally, this venture was running high on expectations and with Siddharth sharing screen space with his alleged girlfriend Shruti Hassan, the film had already generated a lot of hype, much before its release.
Alas, a cliched plot fails to create interest in the film, but technical values.

When it was announced that Sanjay Dutt would do a cameo in Srk’s Ra.One, many film fans rejoiced, as this will (apart from Sanju’s really short appearance in Om Shanti Om‘s Deewangi Song) actually be the first time for Sanju and Shah Rukh to share screen space. Proceeding from this fact, we were thinking about other actors who never worked together yet in a Hindi film, but whom we very much would love to see together on screen.
Bipasha Basu and Hrithik Roshan

It's confirmed. Asin it is, as Salman Khan's leading lady in Anees Bazmee's remake of the Telugu hit Ready. And it was never Deepika Padukone, as reported in a section of the press. "Asin plays the lead. I wonder where Deepika's name came from!," says director Bazmee currently preparing for a month-long shooting of his new film Thank You in Canada. Anees also denies the story that Salman asked him to sign Asin. "The role requires a 'chulbuli', vivacious, talkative and agile girl. Asin was the natural choice." Asin had played a similar role in Ghajini. That's the role that convinced Anees that Asin was the right choice for Ready. In fact Genelia D'Souza, the first choice for all 'chulbuli' vivacious-girl parts, was working with Anees Bazmee in yet another remake Its My Life (original Telugu film Bommarillu). Genelia was Anees natural choice. Having failed to play something different in London Dreams,...

Never one to undersell his strengths, Siddharth recently surprised even his most ardent fans - not to mention stars such as Kamal Hassan, Rajnikanth and even Madhuvan - by suggesting that he was as big as Shahrukh Khan in Tollywood. "I do a lot of romantic roles in Telugu films,” he says, “In fact when people say you are the Aamir Khan of Telugu films, I say I am the Shah Rukh Khan of the film industry. I do all the Tujhe dekha toh ye jaana sanam type of sequences in Telugu.”
Siddharth, still most famous for his role in Rang De Basanti, had some hits earlier in his career with Boys, Nuvvostanante Nenodantana and Bommarillu but existed in a kind of daze until the release of Striker earlier this year - the first movie to be released directly on to Youtube, which has so received nearly a million views.

Fans of Hindi films won't find it surprising that yet another obsessive filmi hero with tendencies bordering on stalking (not unlike Vivek in Saathiya, or Siddharth in Bommarillu) has acquired quite the following in India. This hero, however, isn't desi. He doesn't speak Hindi--at least, not that we know of. In fact, he's technically not even human. You guessed it; Edward Cullen, the famed Adonis-like vampire of Twilight, is making an intercontinental splash---and India isn't left out of the craze.
When asked why she loved Twilight, Bollywood blogger Miss Malini replied, "So I know the Twilight series is supposed to be for teenage girls but come on, how hot is Edward and how am I not supposed to notice?! I like the whole modern take on vampires and romance, the fact that they pull away from any sort of stereotypical representation and the pace of the narrative." Another fan, Aditi K.

Shruti Hassan is on a high after landing her Tollywood debut opposite enigmatic Siddharth. The film will be directed by Prakash Rao. It's an interesting combination with all three artists known to be independently-minded and with leanings towards music - both traditional and modern. Shruti debuted in Bollywood opposite Imran Khan in Luck, Siddharth is still best known for his roles in Bommarillu and Rang De Basanti and Prakash Rao made and starred opposite the fascinating Shabana Azmi in the flick Morning Raaga.
Meanwhile, people are still talking about Shruti's breath-taking appearance on the ramp alongside Zayed Khan for Manav Gangwani's collection A Tempestuous Affair during the Hdil Couture Week in Mumbai. Looking as though she was born on the runway, Shruti impressed in a diamond and emerald-encrusted bustier costing a crore alone, a satin emerald belt and black skirt, and looking every bit the traditional Indian dancer.

Remakes are in! Ghajini, Bhool Bhulaiya, Saathiya, and the list is never ending. Hindi film makers are finally embracing their Southern counterparts and are constantly on the lookout for films down South that are credible enough to embrace a much larger audience. Boney Kapoor was quick to buy the rights of the blockbuster Telugu hit Bommarillu (Harman Baweja and Genelia starrer, It’s My Life) and Pokiri (Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia starrer, Wanted – Dead or Alive) and now the production house that gave us classics like Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Maine Pyaar Kiya are join the bandwagon as they recently acquired the rights to co-produce recent Telugu release and hit Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashatm.
Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam starred Siddharth (Karan Singhania from Rang De Basanti) in a leading role with Southern newcomer Tamanna Bhatia. The story is essentially a love story with a very strong family element.

Mumbai, Actor-turned filmmaker Sanjay Kapoor, who is busy with his film "It's My Life", says he roped in Hurman Baweja for the lead role instead of Aamir Khan because the senior actor would not have fitted the character of a young boy. "You should be looking at what is your story trying to tell. For 'It's My Life', the role required a young boy. Now obviously Aamir Khan wouldn't have fitted in there. Similarly for the role of a father, I needed someone whose mere presence bears a commanding authority. Of course there was no other choice but Nana Patekar," Sanjay told Ians.
