Frequent collaborators David Wain and A.D. Miles are teaming up to develop a daily sitcom for WarnerMedia, Variety has learned.
The project, titled “Today’s Special,” has been given a pilot order plus a four episode commitment, given that the show will be shot and aired daily should it go to series. It takes place in a 24-hour diner which serves as a hub for a diverse group of characters. The lives of the staff and regulars intertwine in ongoing storylines while also reacting to trending topics and the day’s headlines.
The project does not have an official network home under the WarnerMedia umbrella at this time, and could potentially air on one of the linear networks like TBS or on the streaming service HBO Max.
Jax Media will produce the series, with Wain and Miles serving as producers in addition to creating the format.

Actress Andrea Savage is known in the comedy world for her time with the Groundlings and on single-camera series such as “The Hotwives of Orlando,” “Veep” and “Episodes.” In 2006 she also started writing and producing professionally, starting with Comedy Central’s “Dog Bites Man” and then “Funny or Die Presents” a few years later. But soon enough she wasn’t satisfied with being just a triple threat and added show creator, showrunner and director to her resume. Her semi-autobiographical series “I’m Sorry” is now airing its second season on truTV.
Did your approach for the second season of “I’m Sorry” change due to your experience working on, or watching audience reception of, the first?
I was scared going into the second season, I will say, because my show is based on real stories from my life and I was like, “Well I’m a shell of a person now.

Exclusive: When he makes the transition to The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon will have his key lieutenant A.D. Miles by his side. Miles, who has served as head writer of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon since the show’s 2009 launch, has closed a deal to work in the same capacity on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which is set to premiere on February 17. Miles, an actor-comedian who worked the New York comedy scene in the 1990s and starred on Comedy Central’s Dog Bites Man, had no talk show experience when he was hired as Late Night With Jimmy Fallon‘s first head writer. He helped establish the show’s brand of elaborate parodies and high energy bits. In addition to his writing duties, Miles appears in some of the late-night show’s signature comedy sketches, including The Ragtime Gals: Barbershop Quartet and TV parodies Joking Bad, Downton Sixbey...

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2) debuted a brand new short film for people to enjoy, from producer Adi Shankar. While this doesn’t sound all that interesting at first, this is the same producer who brought us that ridiculously awesome Punisher short film, Dirty Laundry, which brought Thomas Jane back to the role. Truth in Journalism is sort-of a follow-up to that and focuses on another fan-favorite Marvel character. The full short film is now available online for all to enjoy!
Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) stars in this found-footage style, short film (which takes heavy influence from Dog Bites Man) which follows a New York City journalist being documented by a French film crew. It’s a slow burn kind of movie, but interesting enough to keep you watching.
Well, things got weird pretty fast! I kind of like this short. It’s not...

They always say that the first year of being married is the hardest. So hard, in fact, that watching newlyweds suffer through things can be pretty fertile grounds for comedy. Or at least that’s the bet writer/director Dan Mazer (Dog Bites Man) is making with his new romantic comedy I Give It A Year. This one tells the story of a horribly mismatched couple trying to survive their first year together, and from the title and the cast announced so far, it would seem that it also heavily involves the couple’s skeptical friends. Prometheus actor Rafe Spall is already set to play the husband, and according to a report from Variety, Anna Faris has agreed to join the film as his wife. That isn’t the end of things as far as casting news goes, though. Margin Call’s Simon Baker and Bridesmaids’ Rose Byrne are also signed up to play what are described...

I’m not going to lie — I was nervous to interview Zach Galifianakis at the Puss in Boots press junket. He’s kind of a comedy hero of mine, so much so that when I tried to tell him how dearly I loved the show Dog Bites Man, I got the name wrong. Sometimes I get so awks around my idols, guys! Blergh.
Luckily, Zach was really fun to talk to, which is how we ended up spending most of our time chatting about VH1 videos, wedding rings and ladies with thongs hanging out of their jeans. Zach also shared the tale of his cat, F Train, who went missing in Santa Monica, only to turn up living with an old lady who vowed to commit suicide if he took the cat back. You’ll have to watch our interview...

Exclusive: NBC has bought a half-hour comedy from actress-comedian Andrea Savage and director-producer Jay Roach. Savage will write and star in the multi-camera project, which is being produced by Universal Television, with Roach and Jennifer Perini executive producing through their Everyman Pictures. The untitled comedy centers on a woman who prides herself on her humor and edge and refuses to become typical after becoming a parent for the first time. The project is semi-autobiographical as Savage too had her first child 2 years ago. Her first gig coming back was a co-starring role in Jay Roach’s 2010 feature comedy Dinner For Schmucks, where the two first worked together. Groundlings Theatre alumna Savage, repped by UTA and Mosaic, also co-starred in the movie Step Brothers. On TV, she starred and wrote for the Comedy Central series Dog Bites Man and HBO’s Funny Or Die Presents and was most recently seen guest...

Even if you have a thing for the chubby, bearded comedian from The Hangover, HBO may be about to deliver more of him than you can handle soon. Zach Galifianakis has garnered a first-look deal with the premium cable giant; for the duration of the deal, HBO has first dibs on anything that Zach creates or wants to produce. Galifianakis is hilarious opposite Jason Schwartzman on Bored to Death, so it's obvious he can act for TV, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can write and produce for the small screen, too. The last TV show he produced was the ill-fated Dog Bites Man for Comedy Central, in 2006. Hopefully, his relationship with HBO lasts longer than nine episodes. Reportedly, the first project will be a low-budget mockumentary starring fellow comedian Brody Stevens. Stevens will play himself in a "day in the life"[...]...

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) is, along with Freddy Got Fingered (2001) and Wet Hot American Summer (2001) , one of my favorite comedies of the aughts (and I guess Dan seems to agree with me, at least in the case of two out of the three). Adam McKay's film is one of the handful of movies that, when I encounter it anywhere, it seduces my attention. I'm not really sure why the film appeals to me this strongly so, in order to try to make heads from tails, I'm writing up another real-time review.
1:17: I think part of what makes this film work so well is that it takes the classic screwball formula of the battle of the sexes as its foundation. Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) are characters that, while hilarious, also have oddly "real" motivations for inhabitants of a comedy. Ron, despite his womanizing,...

Your NFL Week 11 Recap, in the form of stupid pictures: Steelers 35, Raiders 3 The Steelers rolled in this one despite a franchise-record 163 yards worth of penalties, including a ‘Roughing The Passer’ flag on James Harrison for, as the ref described it, “Using his full weight to make the tackle.” I’m glad the league is cracking down on linebackers who fail to lose weight between the beginning and end of tackling someone (throwing up is encouraged.) Ben Roethlisberger had his strongest game of the season though: Cowboys 35, Lions 19 I think we all clearly agree with both meanings of this Cowboys sign: Packers 31, Vikings 3 With this road win, the Packers officially threw a cement coating around the already nailed-shut coffin that is the Vikings’ 2010 Season: Bills 49, Bengals 31 After blowing a 31-14 lead at home to the Bills, the Bengals have officially slipped to “paper bag head” status: On a related note, when...

We understand that it's impossible to make a comedic movie these days without Zach Galifianakis. The Internet is buzzing about his upcoming film 'It's Kind of a Funny Story' and his November re-teaming with director Todd Phillips in 'Due Date.' While we love that the mainstream is finally embracing his talent, remember not to forget how wonderful the Great Bearded One is on TV.
Galifianakis's work on 'Dog Bites Man,' 'The Comedians of Comedy,' 'Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!', 'Saturday Night Live,' 'Reno 911' and even 'Tru Calling' (where he played a Eliza Dushku's supervising mortician) should not be overlooked. Plus, his performance in the HBO series 'Bored to Death,' which just premiered its second season, may be his best work yet.

Matt Walsh was one-fourth of improv troupe Upright Citizens Brigade's most famous lineup -- the one with fellow comic totems Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Amy Poehler that fronted the '90s Comedy Central series Upright Citizens Brigade. The 45-year-old's cult hero status has led to a number of supporting roles as a correspondent on The Daily Show, bit player in The Hangover, Role Models, and I Love You Man, and star on Comedy Central's recent Dog Bites Man. Now, as Walsh's new Spike TV sports bar comedy Players takes off, he talks to Movieline about improvisation, the college experiences that led to Players, and the kind of "postmodern" comedy he finds annoying.

Zach Galifianakis might play kind of a weirdo again. Stop the presses! Galifianakis, whose break-out role in The Hangover this summer has made him super in-demand, is in talks for the film adaptation of It's Kind of a Funny Story, a Ya novel about a 15-year-old's suicidal thoughts and brief stay in a psychiatric hospital. Galifianakis would play one of the adults in the same facility. I am wild about Galifianakis -- I love his iconoclastic stand-up, I was one of dozens of people who liked Dog Bites Man, and I technically sat through all of The Hangover. But much as I love his deadpan weirdness, I'm worried that that's all he's playing these days; yesterday's Bored to Death pilot just confirmed that I have reason for concern. It's not that Galifianakis does a bad job with these roles, but Non-Threatening Weird Guy has a limited appeal and shelf life.

You probably know A.D. Miles from Reno 911, Dog Bites Man, Wainy Days, Wet Hot American Summer or his very successful internationally known online web series, Horrible People. The web series was embraced by an international base of true soap fans and the comedy community as well. Thirteen web episodes were translated into just about every major language in existence and was oddly popular in France, go figure. At one point it was the “#2 most viewed entertainment video” on the internet. With over 1.7 million (and counting) views Horrible People has shown the world that A.D. Miles knows what hungry web audiences want, and how to give it to them. If you haven’t seen Horrible People, I’m jealous of you because you get to go to www.mydamnchannel.com right now and watch it from beginning to end. Visioneers is the impressive feature debut of brothers Jared and Brandon Drake. A story driven exploration of an already here Corporate Dystopia, and what it takes to survive as a human being. The flick came in at under $1m and the Bros Drake adapt to circumstance by making great use of simple and retro technology. Clever dialogue had me laughing my ass off, especially in the first half, and made me think of a light hearted version of Hal Hartley in movies like the Unbelievable Truth. I love absurdist humor and word games. I thought the story lost a bit of its power when it got into the love and pole vaulting can conquer all, but I know others will disagree with me on that. NBC's loss is Comedy Central's gain: The cable channel has picked up a series from DreamWorks Television the broadcaster passed on last season. Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of American Lives, which blends scripted and unscripted material, from executive producer Dan Mazer, creator of HBO's Da Ali G Show. The series will premiere in the summer. Lives was developed at NBC for the 2004-05 season, but the network ultimately passed on it. When Lauren Corrao, executive vp original programming and development, heard the project was available, she felt it had the right fit for Comedy Central.
