Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.
To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023) starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault lands at Max after its theatrical release in February this year. Another major theatrical release from 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), swims onto the streamer starting June 7.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. Discovery’s big change to its premier streaming service was simply to take the “HBO” off of the name “HBO Max,” leaving just “Max.” But in announcing its list of new releases for Max in June 2023, Warner is highlighting all of the HBO content anyway. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.
Even though June 2023 is the first full month of Max’s existence without the helpful “HBO” modifier in front of it, literally all of its major original offerings are thanks to the pay cable network. June 4 sees the premiere of The Idol, the controversial TV project starring The Weeknd and written by Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson. After that, season 3 of Danny McBride evangelical comedy The Righteous Gemstones premieres on June 18. That will be...

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Paramount Plus is building out the cast of the upcoming series “The Offer,” which tells the story of the making of “The Godfather,” with the additions of Giovanni Ribisi, Colin Hanks, and Dan Fogler.

Sky, the Comcast-backed pay-tv broadcaster in the U.K., has added “outdated attitudes” disclaimers to a batch of films, including the original animated “Jungle Book,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Last Samurai.”
Upon searching for Disney’s “The Jungle Book” on movie service Sky Cinema, a description now reads, “This film has outdated attitudes, language and cultural depictions which may cause offence today.” The same warning has been applied to Jon Favreau’s 2016 re-imagining of the classic movie.
A check of nascent streamer Disney Plus, whose content is also available on Sky under the companies’ output deal, shows that that service already makes clear that films such as the original “Jungle Book” “contains outdated cultural depictions.” As previously reported, Disney had the warnings in place around the 2019 launch of the streamer.

You know, it's been awhile since I've seen an awesomely bad martial arts competition movie. There was Streetfighter, Bloodsport, I even count Balls of Fury on some level. But this new film, Lady Bloodfight already has caught my interest.
Now, I'm not saying I don't enjoy terrible martial arts competition movies. I love them. You get all the weird characters with different styles and quirks. In fact, if I were to criticize the new Iron Fist Netflix series it would be that I wanted more unique challengers for Iron Fist to go up against. My favorite part of the series is when he took on the three challenges in one episode. That's the kinda thing I expect from martial arts movies. It's also the kind of thing the Iron Fist comics are leading towards.
So you can believe me when I say that just because this new film Lady Bloodfight looks terrible,...

Taking a closer look at the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemTaking a closer look at the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemAdriana Floridia11/17/2016 9:56:00 Am
This November, we'll be meeting a whole new cast of characters from the mind of J.K. Rowling when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits Cineplex theatres on November 18th. When Harry Potter first came out, the films didn't just give us Harry, Ron and Hermione, but also Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
While some of the members of this new cast are familiar faces, for many of them this is the biggest project they've yet to be a part of, and the film is bound to introduce these actors to a whole new audience. We're taking a closer look at the cast, one by one.

Move over Ron Weasley — there’s a new funny guy in the Potter-verse!
The first Harry Potter prequel, in a series of five, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters Friday and follows the life of magizoologist Newt Scamander — played by Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne — as he travels to New York with a peculiar case filled with magical creatures.
But the real fun comes from Dan Fogler’s character, Jacob Kowalski, a no-maj (the American word for Muggle or non-magic person) World War I vet who gets caught up in Scamander’s dangerous and magic filled adventures.

While we’re still waiting for Hellboy 3, Ron Perlman is diving deep into a slightly similar world of myth and magic with The Hollywood Reporter announcing the actor as the latest cast member to sign up for Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. Reportedly signing on to play a goblin (kinda tall there, aren’t you Ron?), the one and only Beast of the Apocalypse, and al round epic individual, is just another stellar addition to a pretty amazing cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterson (Inherent Vice), Ezra Miller, (We Need to Talk About Kevin) Jon Voight, Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury), and Colin Farrell. Directed by Harry Potter veteran, and marking J.K. Rowling’s first stab at script writing, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them turns back the clock seventy years in the mystical world of everyone’s favourite boy wizard, as...

News from Hollywood, Los Angeles: Liam Neeson is starring in a new action movie. Except it's technically an action-comedy... and it's called The Revenger.
Helmed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, there is no official synopsis accompanying the announcement, but it's pretty clear what is going on: the Taken star is taking the mick out of himself.
This follows in the footsteps of Neeson's glorious cameo in Ted 2, where he also has fun with his action persona. Then there's his voice role as Good Cop / Bad Cop in The Lego Movie, which may well be the best thing he's ever done, ever, ever, ever.
It's the leather-jacketed gunning-and-running that's been paying the Oscar-winning actor's bills of late, with his most recent lead roles being in Taken 3 and the all too similar Run All Night.

We have now, apparently, reached the stage of Liam Neeson’s action career where he’s ready to take spoofing it to the next natural stage – an entire action comedy on the big screen. All right, so we don’t know for sure that it will be exactly that, but The Revenger sounds like it could be.Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer has come aboard to direct the film for Universal, based on Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant’s script. Little is known about the screenplay besides the name, but given that it comes from the men behind the first two Night At The Museum films, Hell Baby and Balls Of Fury, expect silliness. Neeson has shown he’s more than willing to be funny in the past, most famously still in Extras, but also in the likes of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Lego Movie and Non-Stop. Fleischer,...

With a release date set for next year, filming has kicked off on Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, with principal photography beginning in Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England today. With David Yates, already no stranger to the wizarding world having directed the last four Harry Potter movies, at the helm, this new addition to the franchise will take place seventy years before the events of the Harry Potter movies and follows preeminent magizooligist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) on his travels to find and document magical creatures. The last few months have seen the cast slowly grow, with Katherine Waterson (Inherent Vice), Alison Sudol (Dig), Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury), Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Jenn Murray (the upcoming Brooklyn), newcomer Faith Wood-Balgrove, and Colin Farrell going Redmayne for this new magical adventure. The first day of shooting brings with it a new addition to the cast,...

Of all the British and Irish actors to populate the Harry Potter franchise, one notable exception (well, two if you count Liam Cunningham. Which is surprise, since he’s in everything) was Colin Farrell. Well, now that has been remedied with the actor joining the cast of Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as Graves, a wizard that the movies hero, Newt Scarmander (Eddie Redmayne), in New York during his quest to find and document the various magical creatures that make their home in the wizarding world. With Redmayne and other rising stars, including Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury), Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Josh Gad (Frozen, Pixels), and Katherine Waterson (Inherent Vice), making up the main cast, director David Yates seems to be following the Harry Potter formula of building up the supporting cast with veteran actors and known names. With production set to begin later this year, Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slowly gathering its cast, with Deadline reporting that Dan Folger (Balls of Fury, Fansboy) has joined as the movies main Muggle (what wizards and witches refer to as normal humans, if you somehow have let Harry Potter pass you by) character, a first for the series. What’s interesting is his character’s name, Jacob, has been bandied about as the rival to Eddie Redmayne’s magizoologist Newt Scarmander. Folger had been in line for the role alongside Josh Gad, John Karsinski, and Michael Cera, which is quite strange since all are known as comedic actors, and really makes you wonder what type of villain this movie is going for. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes our way November 18th 2016.

Christopher Walken, with his stone-face and signature elocution, has built an incredible mystique over the course of his career. And like another odd yet deeply beloved actor (Jeff Goldblum) he knows you are obsessed with him. And he uses this cultural fascination with his Walken ways to his own bemusement, and cake-getting. Maggie Q, Walken's co-star in the sports comedy Balls of Fury, has given the world a glimpse into the strange inner life of Christopher Walken. In her Reddit Ama to promote her upcoming series Stalker, she sang the praises of Tom Cruise, discussed her process, and spoke out for animal rights. But amid all that Maggie Q delivered a bizarre and yet believable story about how Walken amuses himself during the downtime on film shoots. Essentially, he fakes his birthday. Asked if Christopher Walken is "funny as hell" in real life, Maggie Q answered, "Christopher Walken is not...

Dan Fogler is best known to big screen audiences for his work in a string of comedies like “School of Scoundrels,” “Good Luck Chuck,” “Balls of Fury,” “Fanboys” and “Take Me Home Tonight,” most often as the voluble best friend or a disrupter of normalcy. Of course, he’s also won a Tony Award for his performance as William Barfee in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and last year he helped anchor, alongside Josh Duhamel, the indie film “Scenic Route,” a spare, streamlined psychological thriller that doubled as a study in masculine relationship drift. Now, with the psychedelic comedy “Don Peyote,” Fogler has added another feather to his cap. A rollicking, ramshackle [ Read More ]

I’ll say this for Dan Fogler’s “Don Peyote”—its title might be the finest play on “Quixote” in cinema history. (Sorry, 2007’s “Donkey Xote.”) Unfortunately, a pun-tastic title does not guarantee a winning film, as the makers of “R.I.P.D.” can attest. As star, co-writer, and co-director of “Don Peyote,” Fogler deserves credit for the sheer ambition involved in this oddball story of a stoner’s awakening. The likable actor who took home a Tony for Broadway’s “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and has starred in a strange mix of comedies that includes everything from “Balls of Fury” to “Taking Woodstock” also called in a shockingly eclectic bunch for cameo roles: Anne Hathaway, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, Jay Baruchel, Wallace Shawn, Annabella Sciorra and Abel Ferrara (huh?!). But the result is an amateurish mess without a single laugh. Not. One. Laugh. That is no exaggeration.

Pre-credit sequence. Let's see... It was Jeremiah who went home last? Sure. Sounds right. The Final 7 returns home. Jefra is exhausted, but she's feeling good about the decision she made to stay with Tony and that alliance. Kass is feeling smug about Spencer's Idol, which she claims she knew he had. [She did, indeed, voice those suspicions last week.] She's also feeling smug about knowing Spencer wouldn't give the Idol up, saying that a college-aged human male is "the most selfish beast on the planet." "I used my Idol and I used it wrong," Spencer laments. "Tonight we lost the battle, we have not lost the war," he insists of his dwindling alliance with Tasha. The next morning, Tree-Mail arrives and it includes billets of money. "Survivor" Auction! Trish is hungry and looking forward to eating. "Foooood!" she howls. Tony, of course, knows that the auction will also include an Immunity Challenge advantage and he's determined to get it.

Nearly 10 years ago the world was introduced to a stately San Di-ago news anchor who prefers the aroma of rich mahogany and has a healthy taste for scotch (scotchy scotch scotch). Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released on July 9, 2004, proving that Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell could carry a movie, and modern moviegoers enjoy fight sequences that reference West Side Story.
The film largely introduced audiences to Steve Carell, arriving just before NBC’s The Office, and featured an entire subplot starring Maya Rudolph that never made it to the big screen. With the sequel currently in theaters–and promising cameos from the likes of Drake and Kanye West–we felt it was only right to look back on how far the core cast has come, as well as the film’s overall influence on pop culture to date. You know what that means…

Trash Dump Baby: Sketch Comedy Masters Concoct Hellish Misfire
Not quite crass enough to be a successful ‘late night humor’ film and not nearly witty or intelligent enough to ever look past its impromptu, scattered demeanor, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon’s Hell Baby is perhaps ironically titled. Known for their successful television series, “Reno 911,” and various supporting turns in mainstream American comedies, Garant (who previously directed Balls of Fury, 2004) and Lennon haven’t mastered the art of commanding an audience’s attention beyond punch lines, and their latest effort plays like an idea cooked up from a group of guys that got stoned and watched Rosemary’s Baby (or the Roger Corman produced The Unborn, 1991) late one night.

Ensemble comedies can be hit and miss affairs – for every Anchorman, there’s a Balls Of Fury. So co-writer/directors Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon will have to walk a fine line with their new bundle of terror, Hell Baby. Take a look at the trailer over at Apple and judge for yourself how they’ve done.Of course, in terms of taste and judgement, the pair – usually found either writing blockbusters such as the Night At The Museum movies, or in the improv likes of Reno 911! – has decided to go for broke with the madness and the crazy comedy. Oh, and the gore.Still, when your plot finds a couple (Rob Corddry’s Jack and Leslie Bibb’s Vanessa) moving into a run-down New Orleans fixer-upper with the intention of making a quick buck only to discover that it has a Satanic past and lurking horrors, including Vanessa getting pregnant with demon spawn,...
