Anitta cleared her schedule to return to Brazil to join Madonna during her massive concert at Copacabana Beach in Brazil. During an in-depth interview with Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast, the Funk Generation star raved about Madonna and how important it was for them to perform together.
“Madonna’s concert had 1.6 million people. It was historic,” Anitta told Shetty. “But also, her concert had a lot of conservatives saying, ‘Oh my God, this is so… the devil.’ She’s a woman who dedicated her life to fighting for people’s rights—their sexualities,...

Anitta is standing by her “Aceita” video. In a new interview with the Associated Press, Anitta revealed that she had lost more than 300,000 followers after she featured footage of practices from her Afro-Brazilian faith, Candomblé, in the video for her Funk Generation track.

It might come as a surprise to non-Brazilians that the trailblazing pop star Anitta first started her career as an Mc. In Brazil, this means you’re a baile funk singer. Born in Rio suburbs, the Mc Anitta came up playing public court parties with massive, 10-feet-high sound systems blasting heavy kicks and crispy snares all night long, real baile funk indeed. Her new album Funk Generation is a tribute to those early beginnings, and also a platform to experiment with the global pop unfolding in the many sonic palettes of today’s baile funk.

After earning seven Academy Awards for his latest opus, Oppenheimer, everyone wants to know what Christopher Nolan will be doing next. The short answer, of course, is anything he wants. But, buried within a Variety report about how much the director earned for Oppenheimer is a juicy tidbit teasing he might be directing an adaptation of the classic ’60s series The Prisoner! Widely considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time, it starred Patrick McGoohan (who was also the creative mind behind the show) as an unnamed British spy dumped on an island prison for those who were too valuable to be allowed to roam free. Dubbed “The Village”, the former spies don’t have names, but are rather known by their numbers. He’s known as Number 6, with Number 2 being in charge of the never-seen Number 1. The series plays like a psychedelic, cerebral James Bond movie, meaning...

Nothing is safe from your childhood, including Doogie Howser in our first look at the reboot on Disney+.
“Disney is throwing a lot of things at the wall for Disney+. Sure, a The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series makes sense if you have to do something with the Bucky Barnes character. Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, was slated to exclusively stream events from the 2020 Olympics before the event was cancelled. Thankfully for Peacock viewers, other sports content is on the way: The streaming service has created a “Road to Tokyo” pop-up channel, which it bills as a 24/7 stream dedicated to Olympic and Paralympic classic moments, documentaries, and studio programming
Unlike most of the streaming industry’s leading platforms, Peacock boasts an array of live news and sports programming, which is a relatively unmined territory in the market. Peacock’s new channel is part of the platform’s push to further bulk up its topical sports programming as well as a bit of damage control that can give users access to some form of Olympics content, despite the 2020 event’s cancellation.

The Asylum return to the disaster movie well with Collision Earth, yet another “Earth’s in trouble and only science can save us” film. This one comes from first-time director Matthew Boda, a lighting technician (who worked on the likes of Californication and The Colony) turned filmmaker who’s made numerous shorts prior to this but this movie marks his feature debut. However Boda is not the only newcomer behind the scenes of Collision Earth as actor and comedian Joe Roche – who appeared in The Asylum’s Aladdin mockbuster, Adventures of Aladdin last year And plays one of the military crew monitoring the meteor shower here – pens the script for a film that follows just about every cliche and stereotype in the book.

Run down pub? Check. Geezer who’s got himself in too deep? Check. Grizzled British actor formerly of Eastenders? Check. Crime lord who underestimates the anti-hero? Double check.

“Double Vision” is the fifth film by writer/director Chen Kuo-fu, who previously helmed the comedy “The Personals” (1998). This film is one of the many Chinese/Taiwanese movies co-financed and/or distributed by Columbia Pictures during the late 90s and early 2000s, along with other notable films like “Double Team” (1997) and “Time and Tide” (2000). This film was also screened at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, under the Un Certain Regard section.
The film follows the plight of downtrodden and burnt out cop Huang Huo-tu (Tony Leung Ka-fai) as he is tasked with solving a series of gruesome but inexplicable murders. In one of them, a businessman apparently freezes to death in his very hot and humid office and in another, a woman is burnt alive, even if there are no traces of fire or damage to be found. For those of you who just don't get enough of Jean-Claude Van Damme these days, you'll be happy to hear that he is developing his own action comedy series at Amazon called Jean-Claude Van Johnson!
Van Damme has had an exciting career full of both good and bad action movies. The actor doesn't shy away from poking fun at himself either. He did it in Jcvd and that's exactly what this new series is going to do as well.
Amazon has only ordered the pilot episode so far. Here's the synopsis that /Film provides:
Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to put on once again the mantle of his alter-ego, undercover private contractor Jean-Claude Johnson. “Johnson’s” cover as the lead role in a re-imagined action film version of “Huckleberry Finn” lands him right back in the midst of the danger he secretly always craves–but most importantly,...

Sammo Hung is regarded as one of the greatest Kung Fu performers of his generation. His high tempo, hard htting fight sequences have captured audiences all over the world. Future generations will look back and watch in amazement, witnessing one of the very best in world cinema.

A significant event in Dennis Rodman's life is about to inspire a new film, but it has nothing to do with basketball, Carmen Electra, or Double Team 2, much to our chagrin. "Offense wins the glory," once spoke the great Jean-Claude Van Damme, hero of heroes of the silver screen. At the time, though, he was teamed with an equally impressive legend, Rodman, who spoke forth, "But defense wins the game." Rodman lived that philosophy to the fullest during a Hall Of Fame career, becoming one of the league.s all-time greatest rebounders and defensive players and one who was hugely responsible for Michael Jordan.s second wave of three championships in a row. Rodman, the wily veteran, soon embarked upon a post-basketball career of opportunist celebrity, charging people to watch webcams of his house, making dubious reality television programs, and failing to give the people what they want: Double Team...

Jean Claude Van Damme is widely known for his brilliant kicking ability and martial arts background. As a young kid, Van Damme would train in the martial arts Shotokan karate and Kickboxing, during this time he also studied Ballet, which would be used more for his flexibility and strength in his legs.
He has a great kickboxing record on 19 fight, 18 wins, one loss, which he won at a later date in the rematch. But when it comes to his movies, he has a great influence within Asian Cinema, using many directors and choreographers in his movies. In his early movie career he starred in movies such as Bloodsport and Kickboxer, showing the arts of Ninjutsu and Muay Thai. Beyond the 2008 meta-comedy drama Jcvd, I.m not sure that I.ve ever seen a movie where Jean-Claude Van Damme has actively tried to draw laughs out of audiences. Wait, you mean to tell me Double Team was a comedy? Now I have to rethink my whole life. Luckily, the above trailer for Rob Meltzer.s Welcome to the Jungle looks like a rollicking good time, assuming you don.t mind your well-casted comedies intentionally looking dumber than a box of bricks. And I don.t. With a screenplay from first-timer Jeff Kauffmann, Welcome to the Jungle is Lord of the Flies for the stereotypical office worker sect. Dennis Haysbert (24) plays a manger who decides to send his entire team out onto a motivational wilderness retreat on a remote island, only he doesn.t realize that the person he.s hired to guide them, Storm (Van Damme), might as well...

Hong Kong director, producer, and screenwriter Tsui Hark is to receive the Maverick Director Award at the 8th Rome Film Festival (Nov 8-17).
The award is dedicated to auteurs who have contributed to the invention of a new, non-conformist cinema.
Marco Müller, artistic director of the Rome Film Festival, said: “Tsui Hark will always be one step ahead. He has never stopped experimenting, delving deep into the genres, exploring the limits of technology as he follows its non-stop evolution.
“He has reinterpreted the Chinese filmmaking tradition, turning the codes and conventions of Western cinema upside down.”
Hark has had a prolific film career with past credits including Double Team (1997), Knock Off (1998) and Seven Swords (2005) as well as the film series Once Upon A Time in China and the A Chinese Ghost Story trilogy.

He was a joke in "Street Fighter" ... he sucked in "Double Team" ... but Jean-Claude Van Damme could Beat Your Ass in real life, so says Ufc champ Georges St-Pierre. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how an episode of Saturday Night Live is done. Was it perfect? No, but compared to a lot of what we’ve seen this season, it was downright awards-worthy. Here’s hoping we see a lot more of the lovely Ms. Melissa McCarthy on SNL. The actress, who next graces our movie screens in June’s The Heat opposite Sandra Bullock (a dream team if there ever was one), infused the show with a much-needed energy, giving it her all, even when that all meant face-planting on the sticky stage floor.

Acting and basketball don't immediately seem to have much in common — one involves running, jumping, passing, dribbling and heaving a big orange ball through a ten-foot-high net; the other involves standing in front of a camera. So it's safe to say that being good at one does not make you good at the other.
That hasn't stopped plenty of basketball players from making the leap to feature films, though. So with March Madness upon us, we thought we'd take a look at basketball stars whose acting turns were either slam dunks — or flagrant fouls.
We've ranked the players from worst to best in terms of their acting, but ranking them in terms of their basketball skills would be much tougher: Every one of the eight players on our list won at least one NBA championship. But do any of them have a chance at an Oscar? Check it out and let the Madness begin.

Ah, crossovers. The stuff that fan boy fantasies are made of. The ‘What If…’ that has driven countless schoolyard/ college dorm/ bar room debates since time immemorial. Crossovers offer us an almost limitless expanse of possibilities around which to hypothesize, fantasize and generally geek out over.
We all love crossovers, so here are 10 of the most epic scenarios we could come up with. These are crossovers that need to happen, but most likely will not due to reasons of character ownership, studio rights and plain and simple logistics.
Given how comics alone could easily generate a list of 50 Awesome Crossovers, we’ve limited ourselves to existing movie franchises and have resisted the temptation to delve into what we all know would be the ultimate crossover: DC vs. Marvel.
We’ve also attempted to create a viable rationale for how each crossover could logically occur and why it would work in...

The '90s were a weird time in movies. It was when basketball players thought they were movie stars. You know, like Shaquille O'Neal (Kazaam), Michael Jordan (Space Jam), and Dennis Rodman in tonight's MovieMovie Double Team.
In Double Team, an international spy (Jean-Claude Van Damme) teams with a flamboyant weapons dealer (Rodman) to escape from a penal colony and save his family.

Quick question: What’s your favourite movie? Don’t be afraid to say it out loud. It’s fine. We have analytics, and, according to our data, statistically, you are in someone’s crawlspace. They’re not home now, so no one will hear you. So, go on – what’s your favourite movie? That’s right, your answer was Oldboy. We have a lot in common. Let’s try that again. On the count of three yell out your favourite band. Okay? Okay.
One…
Two…
Three!
Wait, what? “The Divinyls”? Really? As your favourite? Weirdo…
Now, back to Oldboy, there are a lot of good reasons why you like that movie so much, Uncle Creepy. For one – Min-sik Choi’s performance is top notch, good spotting. For another, it is a superbly shot, well-paced, electric, hyper-violent, uncompromising and blackly funny revenge thriller, from the guy we should all really think...

The action film star reveals how Stallone, marriage to a good woman and dogs pulled him back from the drug-fuelled brink
Where is Jean-Claude Van Damme? We were supposed to meet in London, until he cancelled his trip at the last minute. Then I was to visit him on a film set in Budapest, but that fell through when he wrapped his scenes early, and so he invited me instead to his parents' home in Belgium, only to go missing in action for 24 hours in the middle of negotiations. None of this is too surprising; after all, this is the self-sabotaging prima donna action star who rose in the 80s and ignominiously nose-dived in the 90s, having burned all his bridges in Hollywood.
And then, as I'm beginning to give up hope, he calls. "I just finished two movies back-to-back," he says apologetically. "When you finish a film, if you believed in your character,...

Title: Nitro Circus The Movie 3D Directors: Gregg Godfrey and Jeremy Rawle Years ago, our minds warped by the spectacle of Dennis Rodman, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mickey Rourke appearing alongside tigers and exploding soda machines in Tsui Hark’s certifiably insane “Double Team,” a friend and I jointly speculated that Hollywood was on a path to ditching any semblance of narrative genre filmmaking and just releasing a movie called “Tricks and Stunts.” A feature-length indulgence of the same-named stunt spectacular, which used its MTV show in 2009 to spark a string of bestselling DVDs and, eventually, a live show in Las Vegas, “Nitro Circus The Movie 3D” is pretty much [ Read More ]...

Roode says he’s not going to embarrass him anymore, and brings him out to “humbly accept his defeat” and shake Roode’s hand. Instead it’s Sting’s music that plays and out comes the Icon. Sting and Roode share some weird caveman insults which somehow garners a “Spank his butt” chant from the crowd. Sting calls Roode out for getting intentionally disqualified and tells him tonight he defends again against Jeff Hardy! Sting is out, and Roode throws a tantrum.
Earlier today, Matt Morgan met Crimson coming out of Direct Insurance and they gave him a Great Deal. Morgan says they’ve been amazing with his family for years.

Looking back at 2011 on what films moved and impressed us it becomes more and more clear—to me at least—that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, our end of year poll, now an annual tradition, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2011—in theaters or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2011 to create a unique double feature. Many contributors chose their favorites of 2011, some picked out-of-the-way gems, others made some pretty strange connections—and some frankly just want to create a kerfuffle. All the contributors were asked to write a paragraph explaining their 2011 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative...

You might be wondering, “Why is the hell is Todd covering a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie for his Forgotten Action Cinema column? After all, everyone’s painfully familiar with this one.” And, for the most part, your snarky assessment is correct. Director Tsui Hark’s ludicrously entertaining 1997 action adventure “Double Team” isn’t exactly obscure, but, from where I’m sitting, it might as well be. Nobody I know seems to likes it, and, truth be told, I can’t really blame them. The entire premise is beyond insane, and Hark’s direction only enhances the picture’s complete disregard for logic and common sense. Van Damme stars as a former intentional spy who must rescue his pregnant wife from the evil clutches of his arch enemy (Mickey Rourke), a man blames our hero for the death of his child. Along the way, Van Damme hooks up with basketball star Dennis Rodman,...

★★★☆☆ Twenty years after its original cinema release, Sheldon Lettich's Double Impact (1991) gets another DVD release courtesy of Second Sight Media. Double Impact (not to be confused with the awful Double Team [1997]) is commonly viewed as one of Jean-Claude Van Damme's best movies and tells the story of twins Alex and Chad Wagner (both played by the 'Muscles from Brussels') who are separated when their parents are killed by a gang, but reunite years later to take down the murderers.

#1 Contenders Match for the X Division Title
Jesse Sorensen vs. Kid Kash
Anyone else think it’s about time he dropped the Kid in his name? I know Man Kash doesn’t have the same ring to it, but he’s definitely not a kid anymore. In saying that as long as he never brings back the Pit-bull gimmick, I’m happy. Match starts off with an exchange of quick pin falls and reversals that the fans are well behind from the bell.

We've all seen sad movies and retained traumatic memories from them. If you didn't bawl at the end of Philadelphia or weep throughout Up or shoot tears perpendicularly during the Jean-Claude Van Damme/Dennis Rodman film Double Team, you're less human than Movieline's staff. Now lachrymose responses are part of a fascinating, cinema-related study: In 1995, scientists gathered film clips that made patients sad, amused, or evoked other emotions (for the purposes of understanding whether sadness leads to overeating, whether fear leads to over-spending, etc.). What's the movie those scientists believe is most effective in producing melancholy? The answer will upset you -- though maybe you'll come up with a sadder movie yet.
