Originally ordered to series in February 2023 and titled Dexter: Origins, Original Sin is set in 1991 Miami and revolves around Dexter (Gibson) as he goes from student to avenging serial killer. With guidance from his father, Harry (Slater), Dexter adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people without being discovered by law enforcement at the same time as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips, who returned to finish off Michael C. Hall’s on-screen journey as Dexter in the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, will serve in the same capacity on Original Sin.

Dennis Hopper was the Oscar-nominated performer who experienced many ups-and-downs throughout his career, with his off-screen antics often overshadowing his onscreen talent. Yet many of his movies have stood the test of time. Let’s take a look back at 15 of Hopper’s greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1936, Hopper made his movie debut at the age of 19 in “Rebel Without a Cause” (1955), where he became fast friends with James Dean. He had an even bigger role in “Giant” (1956), which would be Dean’s last film before his untimely death in 1955. Hopper struggled for several years trying to find his voice, making small appearances in such films as “Cool Hand Luke” (1967) and “True Grit”(1969).
He burst onto the scene with the counterculture phenomenon “Easy Rider” (1969), which he also directed and co-wrote (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern). The story of two bikers (Hopper and Fonda) traveling across...

Being one of the best modern filmmakers with his personal zest that makes his movies stand out, Quentin Tarantino has received numerous accolades for his work in the industry throughout the years of his long-standing career, though not many may know that he actually wasn’t that much recognised for one of his finest scripts.
This fact may indeed come as something surprising given that all of the director’s movies have become a cult classic, but the point here is that Tarantino never got to direct what could’ve been his most brilliant film.
Back in the 1990s Tarantino was yet an unknown, but ambitious aspiring director whose career was put on hold due to the fact that he didn’t have too much money. To finance his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs released in 1992, Tarantino sold his screenplay destined for another movie to Tony Scott. He later on adapted...

1. The Wedding Singer (1998)
One of Adam Sandler’s best movies to date, The Wedding Singer centers on Robbie Hart, the performer who sings the hits of the 80’s at weddings, and a waitress named Julia Sullivan, played by Drew Barrymore.
The actors have been together in many movies since they first played the couple in this one.
“It is without a doubt, my favorite film of his. It has so much heart while still retaining just the right amount of that trademark Sandler silliness.

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994, winning the Palm d’Or and cementing the filmmaker’s career in the process. The Los Angeles-set crime anthology with intertwined stories not only was behind the career revival and rebranding of John Travolta but also helped elevate Samuel L. Jackson from character actor to a bonafide star.

When it comes to the classics of cinema—and sometimes the dregs—it’s always fun to think about what might’ve been. Casting especially can be a strange alchemy between actor and role, and when the formula is off, it’s easy to ponder whether the spell would work at all. Can you imagine Robert Redford as Michael Corleone? What about Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones? And it’s an interesting challenge to envision what Tim Burton’s Batman might’ve been if it starred Bill Murray versus Robin Williams.
The casting of Neo in The Matrix is another legendary “what if?” in movie history. The 1999 classic, which just turned 25 years old earlier this month, is now beloved for its reinvention of Keanu Reeves. He plays Neo in the film; a former sad sack hacker who discovers he’s actually a superpowered messiah sent to free us from a digital prison.

Samuel L. Jackson is revealing why he loves working with Quentin Tarantino.
Amid the Pulp Fiction 30th Anniversary celebration, Jackson opened up about why he likes being part of Tarantino’s films.
“Tarantino films are very different in that, yes, they are character-driven,” Jackson told AP on April 18. “So when you read a Tarantino script, you all of a sudden find yourself knowing you’re going to have a lot to say about who you are and how you feel about things rather than reading five pages of, ‘Ok, drive fast, look this way, the car is going over a curb.'”
He continued, “So there are a lot of more things that you have to embody as a character and bring with you to do it. The fact that I spent years and years in theater helped me a lot to embrace what Quentin does. And he appreciates it...

This article contains casting spoilers for all eight episodes of Fallout.
The Fallout gaming franchise presents a big storytelling universe to play in. And that’s exactly what drew showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner to the Prime Video TV adaptation in the first place.
“It’s more creatively interesting to be able to build our own story in the world that they’ve carved out for us,” Wagner told Den of Geek. “That’s historically been the trajectory of Fallout. It’s traded hands many times, with different creative teams taking it over. It’s kept it fresh, kept it relevant. We chose to just vainly look at this as our Fallout.”
Of course, a big storytelling universe also requires a big cast to fill it up. Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t wanting for compelling lead characters thanks to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul...

Prolific is a massive understatement when it comes to describing producer Samuel L. Jackson, who next stars in The Kill Room, which opens Sept. 29.
Since his debut in indie film Together For Days in 1972, the 74-year-old Jackson has been in more than 100 films that have collectively grossed more than $27 billion, making him the highest-grossing live-action actor of all time as of 2021, according to The Numbers.

Born in 1963, Quentin Tarantino redefined independent cinema with his pulpy mix of violence, dark humor and pop culture, crafting several modern classics. But before he made history, he made a living as a video store clerk while penning spec scripts. He made his directorial debut with “Reservoir Dogs” (1992), a “Rashomon”-esque crime drama about a botched jewel heist. Two more of his scripts, “True Romance” (1993) and “Natural Born Killers” (1994), were later produced by Tony Scott and Oliver Stone, respectively.
He hit the Oscar jackpot just two years after his filmmaking debut with “Pulp Fiction” (1994), a multi-narrative, self-referential pastiche about a group of criminals whose lives intersect in surprising ways. After winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the indie hit went on to collect a screenwriting prize for Tarantino and Roger Avery, earning nominations in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (John Travolta), Best Supporting Actor (Samuel L. Patricia Arquette didn’t lose sleep over her nude scenes from David Lynch’s 1997 psychological erotic thriller “Lost Highway.”
Arquette, who played two separate roles — 1) an adulterer cheating on her jazz-musician husband (Bill Pullman), and 2) a temptress seducing a mechanic (Balthazar Getty) — said during Series Mania (via Variety) that she found a strip scene in the film “terrifying.” Arquette credited Lynch for scolding crew members who made “gross” comments ahead of filming her nude sequences.
“I was so extremely modest: I would take a bath in the dark,” Arquette said. “The scene when my character had to strip was terrifying to me. Some of the guys were saying crude things and I told David, ‘I am not comfortable – they are saying gross things.’ He said, ‘You read the script.'”
As Arquette recalled, Lynch immediately switched to, “Wait, who said what?”

The long wait is over: Patricia Arquette finally explained David Lynch’s “Lost Highway.” Kind of.
“I would ask David: ‘Am I playing two characters, am I playing a ghost?’ He would say: ‘What do you think, Patrish?’ It’s a woman looked at through the distorted view of a psychotic misogynist,” she said at Series Mania.
“He hates women, he doesn’t quite trust her, even though she is his wife. He kills her but can’t remember it, then he recreates himself as this virile young man and meets her again. And now, she actually wants to fuck him and she is in love with him. But even in this version, she is a dirty whore.”
“In this man’s mind, a woman is always the monster. No matter what. I thought about Jezebel and Salomé for this part, all these bad girls of the Bible.”

Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette chaired a career masterclass this afternoon at Series Mania in Lille, France, where she served as this year’s guest of honor.
Topics up for discussion during the session ranged from Arquette’s childhood growing up on a “hippie” commune with her parents in rural Virginia alongside her career as an actress, working with filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater, and David Lynch.
“He gives you a lot of freedom,” Arquette said of Lynch, whom she worked with on his 1997 surrealist feature Lost Highway.
Lynch’s Lost Highway, like many of his films of the 90s, is a project focused on gender, sexuality, and sensuality. The late, great James Gandolfini began acting in the early 1980s, but it was "The Sopranos" that made him a star. And it was a stardom that seemingly always made the performer uncomfortable. Up until his big break on the HBO series, Gandolfini appeared as small supporting characters in films like "True Romance" and "Get Shorty." It was the role of Tony Soprano that launched him into a kind of superstardom. Gandolfini was so good as troubled mob boss Tony Soprano that it was almost scary; he fully embodied the character, and seemingly everything he did with the part — be it raising his voice or simply, and quietly, raising his eyebrows — became something to obsess over. We are worse off without him around, continuing to deliver memorable roles (Gandolfini died in 2013 at the far-too-young age of 51).

It is a testament to his acting ability that it was years before I realized that Gary Oldman is British. With an ability to nail accents, the dedication to drastically change his appearance and the talent to convey the full spectrum of emotions, Oldman is one of the most eclectic and underrated actors of our time.
Born March 21, 1958, in London, Oldman began his acting career on the British stage in 1979, and made his film debut in “Remembrance” in 1982. In 1984, he reluctantly accepted the role of punk rocker Sid Vicious in “Sid and Nancy,” a performance which garnered him critical acclaim and launched a diverse and successful career that has spanned almost four decades, and includes everything from small indie films to blockbuster franchises.

Dune: Part Two’s star-studded cast has left Rebecca Ferguson terrified of her co-stars, especially the legendary Christopher Walken. Known for his work on 1978’s The Deer Hunter, 1993’s True Romance, and 2002’s Catch Me If You Can, Walken’s career in Hollywood spanned seven decades.

"If you went into a movie called 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' and you were doing the stuff I was doing in that movie, would you be expecting while you were doing that movie that it was going to be huge?" Jim Carrey asked this to radio shock-jock Howard Stern in 1994 shortly after the actor's movie opened unexpectedly atop the box office. Stern bluntly responded with "No" but it was, in fact, a monster hit. It was one of three such hits that Carrey would be a part of that year, making it one of arguably the best years that any actor has had — from a commercial standpoint — in history.

Eli Roth's 2023 slasher film "Thanksgiving" famously started its life back in 2007 in the form of a fake trailer sandwiched in between Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" and Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof," two movies released as a single mega-feature called "Grindhouse." The goal of "Grindhouse" was to recreate the experience of seeing a cheap exploitation double-feature in a run-down New York theater in the early 1980s, complete with film scratches, missing reels, and several previews for upcoming ultra-salacious genre movies. The trailers were all fake at the time, but since 2007, the trailers for "Machete," "Hobo with a Shotgun," and "Thanksgiving" have been made into real movies.
Roth, as the director's fans know, is a voracious cineaste, and has likely spent more time watching movies than most people. He also wears his influences on his sleeve; in the credits for Roth's 2013 cannibal film "The Green Inferno," he includes a list...

Love is one of the biggest anomalies in human evolution. On paper, it should merely be nature's byproduct of the biological urge to propagate the species, an endorphin-induced insurance trap. Love at its most powerful, however, instigates what seems like an almost total transformation within a person: they become stronger, braver, more impulsive, more reckless, and do things they never would have dreamed of doing alone.
One cinematic genre that routinely explores the core of this transformation is film noir. Unlike, say, the cuddlier version of love as seen in the rom-com or the adventure movie, noir tends to encapsulate both the exhilarating and disturbingly dangerous aspects of true love; it can be a character's greatest asset or their Achilles heel, sometimes all at once. It's all a matter of perception.
Perception is something that director and co-writer Rose Glass is explicitly concerned with, and it's her interest in the...

The Happy Sad Confused podcast is the end-of-year gift that keeps on giving this week. This week, the podcast’s guest was Academy Award winner Gary Oldman (“The Darkest Hour”). Oldman talked about his time in the “Harry Potter” series (he thought he was mediocre), he lamented never being directed by Quentin Tarantino (though speaking his dialogue in “True Romance”), and he says he was up for a villain role in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins,” before eventually landing the Jim Gordon good guy cop role instead.

The Jake Gyllenhaal/ Doug Liman remake of Road House seems destined for a streaming premiere. The news comes courtesy of Variety and was buried in a piece they wrote about the severing of producer Joel Silver’s relationship with Amazon Studios. According to the report, one of the reasons Silver was fired was due to rather heated discussions with people working for the studios over the films he was involved in, which were apparently bad enough to be considered verbal abuse. One of the things Silver was allegedly most upset over was the fact that Amazon is reportedly planning to release Road House straight-to-streaming through their Amazon MGM banner. This is despite the film being the highest testing film in director Doug Liman’s career, which is saying something as he also directed The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, Swingers, Go, and Mr & Mrs Smith.

“Another Life,” the first song on PinkPantheress’ long-awaited debut album, Heaven Knows, opens with the ominous sound of an electrified cathedral organ. The collaboration with Nigerian musician Rema, in which the British singer wakes up next to her partner only to find him dead, fittingly sounds like a funeral. “Can you please wake up, babe? Now you’re scaring me,” she sings, before coming to terms with her reality: “Guess you died today, and I can’t believe it. You lost your soul, you know that you can’t stop this.

The Vista Theatre in Los Feliz, which was bought by Quentin Tarantino in 2021, is finally ready to unveil its renovation with a special anniversary screening Saturday of “True Romance” with Tarantino hosting.
The theater’s regular programming kicks off Nov. 17 with Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” in 35mm, followed by Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” in 70mm starting on Nov. 22.
“Quentin basically retained the auditorium — it’s intact, it’s been rehabbed and it’s still new and beautiful, but the overall auditorium is in intact condition,” said chief operating officer Lance Alspaugh.
The reopening of the 100-year old movie house is another sign that Los Angeles filmgoers are eager to support independent and classic film programming, particularly in historic venues. Netflix’s 101-year-old Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, which is programming in partnership with the American Cinematheque, reopens after an extensive remodel on Nov. 9, while Vidiots opened its screening and rental venue...

There are celebrities who transcend mere levels of fame to become an icon. Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, and Muhammad Ali all come to mind as pop culture figures that achieved a level of ubiquity that firmly embedded them in the fabric of 20th century pop culture, impacting the cultural imagination in a way that can still be felt today. And among those icons, there’s another 20th century figure that feels more legend than man at this point in time: Elvis, baby.
Born in 1937 to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee as a teen, where he developed an interest in music and signed his first record deal at 19. One of the most acclaimed movies of the year is being turned into a miniseries by AMC. For better or worse, "BlackBerry," which was released in theaters back in May, is going to be repurposed as a three-episode TV show that will air on the cable network next month across three nights. It will also be streaming on AMC+. While this opens the movie up to a larger audience, it's going to be presented in a way that was not originally intended, making this something of a bittersweet situation. More on that in a second. For now, let's get into the specifics.
Billed as a "special television event," the miniseries version of director Matt Johnson's "BlackBerry" includes 16 minutes of new footage. It will air in three parts on November 13, 14, and 15 on AMC, with all three episodes available on AMC+ on November 13. Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks,...

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

The 1993 film True Romance is the rare Quentin Tarantino script that wasn’t directed by Tarantino himself — it was directed by the late Tony Scott, and it featured an ensemble cast that was led by Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. Released 30 years ago, it was not an immediate success at the box office — even with the participation of big names like Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, Dennis Hopper, and Christopher Walken, the film struggled to earn back its shooting budget. It got great reviews, though, and its reputation has only increased over time — it’s now regarded as a cult classic. Slater’s performance was particularly intense and disturbing, and though Slater doesn’t consider himself a method actor, he admitted at the time that the film’s darkness bled over into his own life while they were filming. Lee cited David Denby and Joe Klein as two of the most prominent critical voices against the film, which has gone to be considered one of the greatest films ever made. The pair wrote, Lee recalled, that...
