Tom Cruise lived and made the Mission: Impossible franchise a ginormous hit franchise with critical accolades embedded in its glorious cinematic journey over the years. However, Cruise was not devoid of any mistakes and the actor regretted killing off one actor too early.
Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible
Cruise’s celebrated action franchise created a legacy since the first Mission: Impossible movie was released in 1996 and Cruise’s titular character Ethan Hunt— an agent in the Impossible Mission Force (Imf) espionage agency lived on with a huge fanbase. Of course, the franchise has been a spectacle but the death of many characters over the years in the movie series definitely rattled some fans.

"If you went into a movie called 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' and you were doing the stuff I was doing in that movie, would you be expecting while you were doing that movie that it was going to be huge?" Jim Carrey asked this to radio shock-jock Howard Stern in 1994 shortly after the actor's movie opened unexpectedly atop the box office. Stern bluntly responded with "No" but it was, in fact, a monster hit. It was one of three such hits that Carrey would be a part of that year, making it one of arguably the best years that any actor has had — from a commercial standpoint — in history.

Photograph by Courtesy of 20th Century Fox Even though all of the original stars of Young Guns would now qualify as “old guns,” since the movie was released in 1988, there continues to be talk of a Young Guns 3. Lou Diamond Phillips recently said he’s already read a script — and though it hasn’t gotten a green light yet, Phillips says it’s not dead yet, either. The original film, a retelling of the Billy the Kid story, was a modest box office success at the time, but it’s gone on to achieve cult classic status. Phillips, who played real-life outlaw José Chávez y Chávez in the movie, spoke on a Steel City Con panel and talked about how he originally got the part. With ten movies and five episodes of TV shows to his credit for 2023, Dermot Mulroney seems to be vying to fill the gap left by the retirement of Bruce Willis. Ruthless proves he’s already mastered sleepwalking through a film every bit as well as he could. Sadly, he won’t be the only one sleeping as this film manages to make human trafficking deadly, deadly dull, that is.
Harry just wanted to go watch a movie. But he ends up telling off some kid who isn’t listening when his date says no. That, of course, leads to the kid pulling a knife on him in the parking lot. That’s not a good idea because Harry is a man...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that he will resign his congressional seat at the end of the year, bringing to an end an often tumultuous tenure in GOP leadership.
“I will continue to recruit our country’s best and brightest to run for elected office,” he wrote in a Wall Street Journal op ed that was published on Wednesday. “The Republican Party is expanding every day, and I am committed to lending my experience to support the next generation of leaders.”
McCarthy was ousted as House speaker in October, after just 10 months, amid bitter divisions with members on the far right. He faced a decision on his future this week, the deadline for filing for reelection for his Bakersfield area congressional seat.
His exit will leave the GOP with an even smaller majority in the House, although it’s expected that McCarthy will be succeeded by a Republican after...

At the time of its 1978 release, "Superman" was one of the most expensive films ever made, boasting a $55 million budget. To tell the story of the famous Man of Steel — an out-of-this-world superhero of immense strength that stood for American values — director Richard Donner's film had to be larger-than-life. The colors were vivid, the airborne special effects were (at the time) groundbreaking, and it had an outstanding cast that truly brought these beloved comic book characters to life and treated them as dynamic individuals.
Christopher Reeve, especially, gives a spectacular performance in the lead role. What he does best is clearly mark the differences and tension between his naive, dweeby alter ego Clark Kent and the formidable Superman. You can literally see and hear the changes in his persona through the way he carries himself and uses his voice. Margot Kidder is his perfect romantic foil as the spunky Lois Lane,...

Dermot Mulroney – action hero? Could happen.
I ran a piece not long ago asking where the new action heroes are. Some of our legends, like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Neeson, are well into their seventies and slowing down. An odd quirk of modern action fans is that they tend to prefer their heroes on the older side. Think of the biggest action stars out there. Are there any under fifty? With Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves busy in A-list action, there’s a lot of room in the second-tier category, and now Dermot Mulroney, a rom-com perennial from the nineties, is dipping his toe into the genre with his new film, Ruthless.
In the new trailer, which Saban just put out, Mulroney plays a high school coach with a specific “set of skills” and a bad temper. When one of his favourite students gets abused by her dad,...

After starring in Two and a Half Men for eight seasons, Charlie Sheen had a very public falling out with series creator Chuck Lorre which led to the actor being fired from the series. We all know what happened next; Winning. Tiger Blood. Total bitchin’ rock star from Mars. So when it was announced that Charlie Sheen would be reuniting with Chuck Lorre for his new Max comedy series How to be a Bookie, people were more than a little shocked.
How to be a Bookie stars Sebastian Maniscalco as a Los Angeles sports betting bookie and the script included a role for a high-rolling celebrity gambler. Chuck Lorre told Variety that he just felt like Charlie Sheen would be perfect for the role. “It should be Charlie,” Lorre said. “I remember Charlie was very much engaged in in sports betting and he would tell me stories about it all the time.

One of the hardest things to do in Hollywood is to make a highly anticipated movie sequel that lives up to the original, much less surpasses it. But if you had a loaded six-shooter pressed to your temple and had to answer as quickly and honestly as possible, what would you say the all-time best movie Western sequel happens to be? Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy certainly comes to mind as the most sterling example. Yet, in terms of a Western that uses historical events to tell a compelling biographical tale, it’s hard to eclipse the blistering entertainment value of Young Guns II – a movie that continues the saga of William H. Bonney, aka, Billy the Kid, and his gunslinging compatriots, The Regulators, following their valiant efforts fighting in the Lincoln County War. Released two years after the original, Young Guns II became nearly as successful as the original...

Howdy pardners! Today, we’re galloping back to 1988, when Christopher Cain and a band of rootin’ tootin’ outlaws shot up the silver screen for the American Western action film Young Guns. Presented as a retelling of the adventures of Billy the Kid during the Lincoln Couty War, Young Gun features a murderers’ row of talent, including Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, Casey Siemaszko, Terence Stamp, Jack Palance, and Terry O’Quinn.
Cain directs from a script by John Fusco. Young Guns revolves around a group of young gunmen, led by Billy the Kid, who become deputies to avenge the murder of the rancher who became their benefactor. However, when Billy takes their authority too far, they become the hunted.
Historian Paul Hutton once called Young Guns the most historically accurate of all films focusing on the dirty deeds of Billy the Kid as of its year of release.

In the era of "everything old is new again" that Hollywood has been going through for some time, why not "Young Guns 3"? That's what Emilio Estevez believes anyhow, as the actor is very much ready to reprise his role as Billy the Kid in a new film in the franchise more than 30 years after the release of "Young Guns 2." What's more, Estevez actually believes there's a lot of gas in the tank for this franchise — four or five movies worth.
Estevez recently spoke with Uproxx about the prospect of "Young Guns 3," which first surfaced as a real possibility a couple of years back. Not only did Estevez say he's "ready to go" but he said, seemingly in earnest, "I think, not only just one more film in the franchise, but I think you could do three, four, and five." What's holding these grand plans up? Legal red tape.

Young Guns II made the west wilder, but Emilio Estevez is ready to get even wilder and wilder and wilder, saying he envisions the future of Young Guns possibly expanding into three more movies–once disputes over the rights and intellectual property are cleared.
Speaking with Uproxx, Emilio Estevez said his spurs are all shined up should everything align. “It all comes down to the legal minds that work out IP. Listen, I’m ready to go. We have a terrific draft and if we can figure out the copyrights on all of this, and if Morgan Creek can sort of untangle from some of the issues that they’ve got in terms of continuing the franchise, we’re ready to go. According to Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise regretted killing off his “Mission: Impossible” character so much in the first film that he tried to bring him back for the sequel.
“’Man, we made such a mistake killing you off,'” Estevez recalled Cruise saying. “He and John Woo were trying to figure out a way to bring me back for Part 2, but it just didn’t make sense.”
The actor shared the “Mission: Impossible” memory in an interview with Uproxx, published Tuesday. Recalling how he was first cast in the franchise, Estevez weighed whether or not the death of his character in the first “Mission: Impossible” was payback for Cruise’s death after appearing in “Young Guns.”
“No, it wasn’t that at all. The way Tom had explained it, he said, ‘Look, I’d love for you to come and join the cast. The whole opening number where everybody gets wiped out,...

Legend has it that Billy the Kid shot and killed 21 men; one for each year of his life. The legendary outlaw's own life was taken sometime after midnight on July 14, 1881, by the reformed lawman Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. There is still speculation that Garrett, a longtime acquaintance of Billy's (whose birth name was Henry McCarty) never actually shot down his old friend and allowed him to escape in the dark of night.
Garrett was also accused of ambushing McCarty, which led to him hiring a ghost writer named Marshall Upton who detailed Garrett's version in "The Authentic Life of Billy, the Kid." The book has become a great historical reference, but at the time of its release in 1882, it failed to change the popular opinion that Garrett may have acted ungentlemanly the night Billy the Kid was slain.

1987's "Wall Street" was released in theaters two months after Black Monday: the day the real stock market took a dive. In the timely film, Charlie Sheen plays Bud Fox, a young stockbroker who admires underhanded corporate raider Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). Bud pursues Gekko as a client with non-stop calls and contraband Cuban cigars, and when he finally makes contact, his entire life changes. Under the influence of Gekko, who famously utters the line "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good," Bud does some terrible things, including offering up insider information that could destroy his blue-collar father, played by Charlie Sheen's real-life dad, Martin Sheen.
The film, which won Douglas an Academy Award for Best Actor, was directed by Oliver Stone, who allowed the young actor to pick the person who would play his father in the film. He was given the choice between Jack Lemmon or...

The 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" from the "Young Guns II" soundtrack is impossible to resist. I feel pretty confident in saying that, when you read the title of that song, it began playing in your head. In fact, you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, and if anyone else is around, they'll join in with the harmony. Maybe you, like a young version of me, watched the video repeatedly, admiring ... the music. I didn't mean the exceedingly good-looking Jon Bon Jovi himself. Okay, that's a lie, but the song really is pretty great. There is a reason it's performed at every karaoke bar, including the fictional one in the afterlife in "The Good Place."
What you might not have realized about the song you cannot stop singing now that I've mentioned it, is that it was written over dinner with two stars of the 1990 sequel to 1988's "Young Guns.

Though writer-director Joss Whedon may not be who we thought he was, there is no question that his television shows remain widely loved and celebrated. This is especially true of the imaginative sci-fi Western "Firefly," which aired for only 11 glorious episodes in 2002. Most fans wouldn't see the remaining three episodes until the series came out on DVD in 2004. Fox bungled this one, pure and simple.
Fans mourn what might've been the way Independents look back on the Unification War, but there's no profit to be had in wishing things were different. "Firefly" gave us 14 wonderful episodes before flying off quietly into that good night. At least there was a form of closure in the 2005 film "Serenity," and the story goes on in a series of graphic novels. As the theme song says, "You can't take the sky from me."
With that in mind, this piece means to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

Lou Diamond Phillips and Daughter Gracie Phillips to Guest Star on Fox’s ‘Cleaning Lady’ (Exclusive)
Lou Diamond Phillips and his daughter, Gracie Phillips, have signed on to guest star on the upcoming Fox drama “The Cleaning Lady,” Variety has learned exclusively. This will mark the first time the father-daughter duo has acted together onscreen.
The series stars Elodie Yung as Thony, a whip-smart doctor who comes to the U.S. for a medical treatment to save her ailing son, Luca (Sebastien and Valentino Lasalle). But when the system fails and pushes her into hiding, she refuses to be beaten down and marginalized. Instead, she becomes a cleaning lady for the mob and starts playing the game by her own rules.
Lou will play Joe Fabroa, described as a charming, handsome, self-centered, luxury car salesman. He also happens to be the anonymous bone marrow donor for Luca that backed out at the last minute after Thony travelled from the Philippines for a lifesaving transplant for her son.

In 1881 a legend was ended, though whether it was a legend worthy of praise or worth forgetting is up for debate between scholars and fans of the movie Young Guns. William H. Bonney, aka Henry McCarty, aka Henry Antrim, aka Billy the Kid, didn’t really live the life that Young Guns 1 and 2 showed in pop culture, but moments of his life caught in film were somewhat accurate since he did work for John Tunstall for a while, and he was a criminal. "There's gotta be someplace without Greasers or Socs, with just people." Studiocanal and Warner Bros have unveiled a brand new trailer for the 4K restoration of Francis Ford Coppola's coming-of-age classic The Outsiders, which originally opened in theaters in 1983. This came just four years after Apocalypse Now, and nine years after finishing The Godfather: Part II. Based on the 1967 best-selling young-adult novel by S. E. If you’re going through “Hell’s Kitchen” withdrawals, you’re not alone. It’s been two weeks since the remaining “Young Guns” contestants last competed on our TV screens, as Fox’s reality TV show understandably doesn’t want to compete against NBC’s showing of the Olympics. So when is “Hell’s Kitchen” coming back? Mark your calendars for Monday, August 9 at 8:00 p.m as that’s when the next episode, titled “A Game Show From Hell,” will finally air.
Here is how Fox describes this ninth episode of Season 20: “One team struggles to work together on its dish; during a special charity dinner service, both teams make big mistakes, and one chef gets heated over who should be put on the chopping block.”

For its landmark 20th season, “Hell’s Kitchen” is traveling back to Las Vegas, but this time around there’s an even bigger twist. All of the contestants are aspiring, up-and-coming chefs who are younger than age 24, which explains why host Gordon Ramsay affectionately calls them “Young Guns.” These 18 all-new chef-testants competed in Sin City prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, with Christina Wilson and Jason “Jay” Santos returning as sous-chefs for the Red Team and Blue Team, respectively. At stake for the winner? A head chef position at Ramsay’s steakhouse at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. So how’d it all play out in Monday’s season 20 premiere?

Kiefer Sutherland is returning to the small screen.
Paramount+ has handed out a series order for a yet-to-be-titled espionage drama starring Sutherland.

The eight-episode season produced by CBS Studios will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
The series finds private espionage operative James Weir (Sutherland) in the midst of a battle over the preservation of democracy in a world at odds with misinformation, behavioral manipulation, the surveillance state and the interests that control these extraordinary powers.
