“Bu Liao Qing” (不了情) is a Mandarin song variously translated into English as “Love Without End”, “Endless Love”, or “Unforgettable Love”. The music was composed by Wong Fuk Ling, and the lyrics were written by Tao Tseon. The song was first sung by Gu Mei in the 1961 Shaw Brothers film “Love Without End“, directed by Doe Ching and starring Dai Lin and Shan Kwan (and also re-made in 1970 by Lei Pan).
In later years, this song has been sung by various artists such as the queens of Asian pop Teresa Teng and Anita Mui, and recently also by Thai/Indian singer Pinky Savika, in a rather respectful modern version (pictured).

James Franco is a man of many interests and inclinations. Among his various pet projects — the advanced degrees, the literary adaptations that no one asked for and no one watched — few seem better suited to his sensibilities than “The Disaster Artist,” a dramatization of the making of Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room.” A hilarious detail about the film just emerged from an interview with one of its stars: “Franco directed the whole movie in character as Tommy Wiseau.”

This Memorial Day weekend at the specialty box office is dominated by niche releases without much crossover theatrical appeal, often available for home viewing. The strongest performer: Sundance entry “Long Strange Trip: The Untold Story of the Grateful Dead” (Abramorama), which opened in two cities, combining Thursday night event shows and full-week dates to overcome its four-hour running time.
While “The Tree of Life,” “Moonrise Kingdom” and “Before Midnight” all opened on this date, since 2013 top distributors have chosen not to launch major releases over the three-day holiday.
June will bring some top releases to flesh out a slow schedule, including Sofia Coppola’s Cannes success “The Beguiled” (Focus Features). Cannes competition films from Bong Joon Ho (“Okja”) and Noah Baumbach (“The Meyerowitz Stories”) will hit Netflix and select day-and-date theaters in June, and sometime after that, respectively.

Some actors manage to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It’s impressive enough to find your niche in Hollywood’s A-list even once. Occasionally, an actor will reinvent him/herself and begin a new phase of their careers that will be even more successful than it was before. Here are nine actors who had a cinematic rebirth.
Liam Neeson- Neeson has had a long career, and the early part of it was in dramatic roles. An intense dramatic actor, he apeared in films like The Dead Pool, Dark Man, Schindler’s List, Rob Roy and Les Miserables. His career rebirth came after playing Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars-Episode one: The Phantom Menace. After that, he got more offers for actions parts and recreated himself as an action hero in films like Gangs of NY, Batman Begins, Taken, Clash of the Titans, the A-Team, Unknown, the Grey, Taken 2,...

One of the nicer surprises of the year is Hidden Figures, the inspirational true story of three African-American women working at Langley as “computers” (i.e. mathematical experts) during the early ‘60s helped get the first American into orbit around the earth.
Taraji P. Henson plays Katherine Johnson, a math whiz from an early age whose knowledge of analytical geometry puts her in the coveted position of working with the top scientists and engineers at Langley on the Mercury project. Octavia Spencer is Dorothy Vaughan, who runs the West Computing group where all the colored women work, but who sees the opportunity to advance her place as Langley brings in the first Ibm computer. Singer Janelle Monae plays Mary Jackson, a woman who would make a great engineer at Langley, but she would have to take classes at an all-white school where they don’t even normally accept women students.

– “3-D Auteurs,” a 19-day, 34-film festival spotlighting stereoscopic movies by some of history’s most distinguished directors, will run at Film Forum November 11 – 29. He's the star of Man Of Steel, The Iceman and now the sci-fi drama Midnight Special. We chat to the great Michael Shannon...
We find Michael Shannon in a reflective kind of mood. In the corner of a plush London hotel room, he fixes himself a cup of coffee before settling down into a tub chair, sipping thoughtfully at his brew between questions.
You can see why Shannon would be cast as General Zod in Man Of Steel, or the real-life contract killer Richard Kiklinski in The Iceman. He has the cool, charismatic, terse toughness of a golden-era Hollywood actor like James Cagney.
Midnight Special, Shannon's fourth collaboration with Take Shelter and Mud director Jeff Nichols, is a change of pace and genre for both actor and filmmaker. It's a sci-fi drama about a father [Shannon] on the run with his gifted son, Alton [Jaeden Lieberher], as they're pursued across...

Chicago – Writer/Director Jeff Nichols is a pure American voice, understanding the dreams of the U.S. culture, and how those dreams interact with the morality they create. After breaking out with the films “Take Shelter” and “Mud,” he is back with his latest cinema vision, “Midnight Special.”
“Midnight Special” is a Steven Spieberg-like chase film, as a young boy is kidnapped from a religious cult. As the kidnapping team (Michael Shannon and Joel Egerton) stay on the run, the forces of government and faith clash over the ultimate fate of the boy, whose truth is reveal along the journey.

If all goes well, 2016 should wind up as a very good year for Jeff Nichols. This past weekend saw the theatrical premiere of his first major studio film “Midnight Special” (our review), and he’s got a surefire awards contender in “Loving” set to be released in November. And with “Midnight Special” coming off a strong box office showing in limited release, hopefully that means it won’t get lost in the shuffle when “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” comes out this Friday. On the back of buzzy premieres in Berlinale and most recently SXSW, Jeff Nichols has earned acclaim for his fourth film, which marks his first collaboration with a major studio and makes its way into Us cinemas on Friday through Warner Bros.
Nichols regular Michael Shannon stars alongside Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, Sam Shepard and newcomer Jaeden Lieberher in Midnight Special, which retains the film-maker’s signature ‘slow-burn tension build’ and ups the ante. His latest film is a sci-fi thriller with car chases, special effects, low-lit cinematography, and a powerful story of a father’s love for his son.
Back in his hometown of Austin, Texas, for SXSW, Nichols spoke to Tiffany Pritchard about the transition from indie to mainstream, and why that matters not when it comes to telling stories and touching the hearts of audiences.

Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender refused to publicly kiss at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
The couple have been dating on and off since late 2014 and had been expected to walk the red carpet together at the film event on Sunday night (February 14). Alicia and Michael instead chose to make their entrances separately and while they sat together inside London's Royal Opera House, they turned down the chance to smooch when they were focused on for the hilarious BAFTA 'Kiss Cam' segment of the show.
Host Stephen Fry had decided to reference the fact the awards was being held on Valentine's Day with the Kiss Cam - usually found at sports games. The camera was turned on couples who were then encouraged to share a peck for fans. Stanley Tucci got into the spirit by giving Cuba Gooding, Jr. a kiss, while Leonardo DiCaprio made...

Jeff Nichols is kicking off the year quite well, with his sci-fi thriller Midnight Special premiering at Berlin this past week and his newest film, Loving, starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, having been picked up for a fall release by Focus Features. As for his Close Encounters-inspired feature starring Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst, Edgerton, Sam Shepard, Adam Driver, and Jaeden Lieberher, it follows a father who sets to protect his uniquely gifted son while being hunted by a pair of dangerous groups. We now have a new U.K. trailer for the film which shows off more of the adventure.

Auteurs working within the confines of the studio system tend to disappoint, though we try to keep hope alive by anticipating the best for talented directors braving compromised visions. 2015 wasn’t without its fair share of standout studio fare, particularly with George Miller’s comeback for Mad Max: Fury Road, Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, Inarritu’s The Revenant, and J.J. Abram’s revitalization of Star Wars. Of course, there were just as many disappointments, including David Gordon Green’s Our Brand is Crisis and the Wachowski Siblings’ rather derivative Jupiter Ascending. While a couple items from our top 25 studio list last year were held over, we’ve noted a bright clutch of hopeful auteur items to look forward to in 2016. You’ll notice a common theme among our top items, including supernatural or extraterrestrial elements.

After executing the dramatic – and critically-acclaimed – one-two punch with Take Shelter and Mud, director Jeff Nichols will return in a major way in 2016, releasing two feature films should all go according to plan. One of which is Loving, a brand new drama that stars Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga; the other, arriving from the other end of the spectrum, is a sci-fi thriller known as Midnight Special.
Returning at the helm, the writer-director is evidently casting his eye to the genre films of yesteryear with his next project, with today’s trailer containing the some of the wide-eyed wonder found in such classics as E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In terms of the plot driving the extra-terrestrial happenings on screen, Midnight Special will follow a loving father Roy (Shannon) who is left no choice but to go on the run with his son Alton after discovering that he inexplicably possess supernatural abilities.

He is not like us. Warner Bros has finally debuted a trailer for Jeff Nichols' long-awaited new PG-13 sci-fi movie Midnight Special, that he made for the studio before moving on to make Loving. Nichols' regular Michael Shannon stars along with Kirsten Dunst as the father and mother of a very special, very unique boy named Alton, played by Jaeden Lieberher. In addition, Joel Edgerton and Adam Driver show up as well. This looks a bit different than I was expecting, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless because I still have hope for this Jeff Nichols sci-fi. I'm curious to see how everyone responds to this footage. Enjoy! If all goes according to plan, we’ll be seeing not one, but two features from Take Shelter and Mud director Jeff Nichols next year. He’s currently shooting the drama Loving with Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, and it seems primed for a fall 2016 release, but first out of the gate will be his long-awaited studio debut: the sci-fi thriller Midnight Special. Once set for a release this upcoming week, it was moved to March by Warner Bros., and today finally brings the first trailer.

Michael Weatherly has always been quite the charmer.
The NCIS’ star proved that back when Et spent the day with the then up-and-coming actor in 1994, on the set of his very first credited role on the soap opera Loving.

“Could it be that I'm always late and they find that charming? I have no explanation. I just know that I'm here, and gosh darn it I'm lucky.”

Then, a review of the pilot script by Buzzfeed that called it “dotted with cultural inaccuracies and stereotypes.” Amid all that controversy, ABC Family has scrapped the pilot. Then, a review of the pilot script by Buzzfeed that called it “dotted with cultural inaccuracies and stereotypes.” Amid all that controversy, ABC Family has scrapped the pilot. Don’t worry, we’ll probably get to have the same debate when FX’s Tryant debuts.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a reality show the way I’m currently watching Big Brother. For the past two episodes, instead of wondering who will survive or what trashy/bastardly shenanigans will happen next, I’ve been fixing my stare on Amanda‘s unending meltdown and shaking my head. I mean, drunk-driving Ruthie from The Real World: Hawaii had a more promising future on her series than Amanda has on Big Brother 15. In fact, Amanda is not just hopeless; she is scary. Her spontaneous fits, her crying jags, her meanness, her utter self-absorption, her obsession with insulting Elissa, then accusing Elissa of being “mean” when the insults don’t work — it’s all so weird. Legendary weird.

We are back again for our second live blog of the 2013 awards season and tonight it's the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards and it's sort of fun to say that tonight there is actually a reason to watch and pay attention for anyone the least bit interested in the awards race. Will Best Ensemble go to Lincoln? Argo? Silver Linings Playbook? Will it be Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) or Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) taking home Best Actress? And what about Supporting Actor? will it be Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) or Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)? I think it's safe to assume Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) will go home winners tonight, but otherwise it's a wide open show. You can check out the full list of nominees for both movies and television right here and the results of the RopeofSilicon reader predictions here.

We’re normally quite happy to see bright citrus colors on any red carpet, but this year’s Emmy Awards may have changed all of that. Who doesn’t love yellow, right? Us, normally, but this time the shade was anything but a ray of sunshine at the event. Claire Danes‘ Lanvin toga-gone-wrong (we’re weeping that it’s a Lanvin) and Julianne Moore‘s Dior Couture fancy nun’s habit already got them on this year’s worst-dressed list. Coming this close to being added on that list is Julie Bowen, whose Monique Lhullier gown looked jarring on her, especially since her hair was all wrong. Kelli Garner was a tad more on the mustard side of the shade card, but her dress was drapes gone all wrong, mismatched makeup and silver shoes that should not have been put on her feet. Getting it somewhat right was the gorgeous Hannah Simone whose one-shouldered romantic,...
