Mark Telford visits Dover on business and falls in love with the place. He decides to jack in his high powered job and take up the position as manager of the local bank.
Mark moves to Dover but his wife wants to stay in London and get a "proper" job. Mark's first decision as bank manager is to lend an unkempt farmer a large sum of money to redevelop his land for leisure use.
Mark and Sylvia sail from London to Dover and receive a surprise visit from Peter and Jenny; Mark's clients M.Dieber and Mrs Santon take a shine to each other.
Mark has his ear bent by the preacher about an environmental issue and is hauled over the coals by his boss over his performance as branch manager; Sylvia and Tim make love.
