Equiano Mosieri

Equiano is a London born (April 22nd), Nigerian cultured, HBCU baptized, classically trained, Hiphop molded, Shakespearean actor. The first play he ever acted in was Athol Fugard's anti-apartheid piece called "Sizwe Bansi is Dead" in 2005 and ever since that introduction, Equiano has been choosing projects that have potential to transform lives and leave a legacy of peace.
He has since gone on to do over 50 productions including Walter Lee Younger in "Raisin in the Sun" in 2012; starred in the off-Broadway centennial piece, "In Fields Where They Lay" in 2014; won an Elliot Norton award in Danai Gurira's "The Convert" in 2016; made audience's blush with a cup as Lord Byron at LaMama Theater in 2016; played Friar Lawrence to over 150,000 people in CSC's outdoor "Romeo & Juliet" in 2017; rocked crowds as Oberon in ASP's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2017; embodied Aaron the Moor in Bedlam Theater's "Titus Andronicus" in 2020; he brought audiences to tears as the damaged revolutionary poet, SOS, in "Our Verse in Time to Come" at The Folger Theater in 2023.
His skill as an actor/writer/director was given the stamp of approval by the late great Craig "muMs" Grant in his last play "Beauteous" in 2019.
In 2017 as a director Equiano created original pieces for the world renowned experimental theater group, The Living Theatre. His directed pieces were used in Sao Paulo, Brazil where the collective piece "Electric Awakening" was premiered.
His art has been sharpened by New York and its many Forts, with his unique approach to the expression coming from incredible life and near death experiences plus the many lessons that come with both. He calls Shakespeare a canvas and music the paint. His transformative live performances have been seen at Shakespeare and Company in 2011; Webster Hall in 2013; Alaska in 2015 - 2016; Berlin, London, Avignon, Vienna, and Greece in 2016; Brazil in 2017; The Folger Theater in 2023; NYU in 2023.
He starred in the feature film "Influence" in 2023 which is in post-production with an expected release date in the spring of 2024. His music was used at Burberry's 2012 Winter fashion show. Jourdan Dunn (the biggest supermodel at the time) closed the year out with Equiano's song blasting from the speakers.
Equiano graduated with an MFA from Brandeis University. He attended TSU for theater, and Emory University as a pre-med student. Before all of that he was celebrated as a physically gifted all-round athlete representing Bromsgrove School Rugby, Epsom College, and Belgrave Harriers.
