Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 film, Sicario, was certainly one of the best films to come out in recent years. The film was a masterpiece in every way, perfectly executing its story and building up to catastrophe in a bone-chilling manner. On top of the filmmaker’s genius, its cast was truly exceptional, with Benicio del Toro front and center, and Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Jon Bernthal by his side throughout.
Josh Brolin and Belicio del Toro in Sicario
While the movie has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, its sequel was unable to maintain the same quality. When Sicario: Day of the Soldado was released in 2018, many fans were disappointed at the noticeable decline between the two projects, and many credited Villeneuve’s absence in the second part as the reason for it.

There were many things to look forward to when Dune: Part Two finally landed after a bit of a delay. The sequel expanded on the lore and started to escalate the universe well beyond what general audiences could predict. There were even rumblings that Anya Taylor-Joy might have a secret role and fuel would be added to the fire as she walked the red carpet at the premiere dressed in a very desert-appropriate dress. Lo and behold, during the two-hour and forty-six-minute epic, the unborn sister of Paul Atreides, Alia, would come to him in a vision as an adult and the viewers would be greeted with Taylor-Joy’s face.
Taylor-Joy would sit down with Variety to talk about her upcoming film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga when she revealed the story of how the secret cameo came about. As she made her appearance as a pretty significant character, that...

This post contains spoilers for the book "Dune: Messiah."
The adaptation of "Dune: Messiah" has already been approved, but we've long wondered just how the hell director Denis Villeneuve is going to pull it off. Not only is there a 12-year time jump, and not only are major characters like Jessica unceremoniously dropped from the narrative, but the book also features a lot of political feuding that will probably have to be cut for the movie to feel even vaguely comprehensible.
For screenwriter Jon Spaihts, however, there are plenty of reasons to stay optimistic. The big one is that "Dune: Part 2" has already made a ton of changes to the narrative to make a better transition into "Messiah," and he thinks those changes are going to pay off big time going forward. As he explained in a recent interview with Mashable:
"I think [author] Frank Herbert came away from...

The Good Doctor is finally back, but spoilers suggest a silly story as the series enters the final season's home stretch.
Shaun and Jordan treat a woman with renal failure... and a potential donor who may have a serious mental condition.
The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 7 spoilers point to an episode that could be great but is more likely to be ridiculous. Considering how close we are to the end of the series' run, this is not great news!
ABC hasn't released much info yet, but the spoiler video and description suggest that the episode will center around a man who thinks he is Jesus.
This is one tired TV trope I could do without. Television is full of pseudo-Jesuses who may or may not be the real thing and skeptical people who realize that they've come in contact with the Messiah Himself by the end of the hour.

The Book Of Clarence postulates apostle traits for an invented figure whose place among the apocrypha opens with a chariot race. That's a competition with a heavy wager to pay off a debt to a criminal figure, and over-leveraged borrowing is everywhere in the film.
The presence of a parallel Messiah can't but be compared to Life Of Brian. This was filmed in Matera, the Unesco heritage Italian village carved into the cliffs of a steep valley which was also where The Passion Of The Christ was shot. If those seem uncomfortable tonal companions then know that The Book Of Clarence is full of similar variety, with similarly mixed results.
Lakeith Stanfield's charisma does a lot of the lifting, from stolen cloaks to various spirits. Omar Sy as the slave gladiator Barabbas first appears wearing a helmet that seems to be based on the mask worn by rapper Mf Doom,...

This article contains possible spoilers for Dune: Part Three and Dune Messiah.
When Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part One opened in 2021, it only took Warner Bros. six days to announce the sequel. However, when Dune: Part Two opened this past March 1—despite doing huge business and clearly paving the way for a third chapter—it took the studio over a month to confirm a film of Dune Messiah was in development. Why the delay? Well, lots of possible reasons, actually.
Even though Dune: Part Two is likely to soon cross the $700 million mark at the global box office, it was an expensive movie to make at a reported $190 million ($25 million more than Part One), plus a marketing budget that likely took that final price tag well over the $300 million mark. Once you factor in that half the box office is going to theaters, you have a low margin for profitability,...

In parts, the morbid mood Deliver Us aimed for hits just the right spot, and you’re left with the feeling that they knew exactly what they were doing. Then there are the perplexing terrains in this temperamental indie where you’re dropped without a compass. What the ambitious team of Lee Roy Kunz and Cru Ennis has achieved with this part-English, part-Russian, and part-Estonian horror is pulling you into an experience to remember. The goal, seemingly, was to give the audience no option but to willfully surrender to this wholly erratic world. A world where each significant turn promises just as much grotesque pleasure as it does dread. It makes all the sense in the world to have the sickening spasms of pregnancy horror chased by hellhounds of religious horror. And to add priests to the mix with no exorcism in sight? Now, that’s what I call bold.

Lately, the Best Supporting Actor Oscar lineup has been seeing double — as in two nominees from one film. That looks likely to continue this season, and if that happens, it’ll mark an unprecedented five-year streak of double bids in the category.
Oscar nuts know this double-dipping wasn’t so rampant until very recently. There was a 26-year drought between 1991’s “Bugsy” yielding noms for Harvey Keitel and Ben Kingsley and 2017’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” ending the dry spell with bids for Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell. There were no co-star nominees the next year, but since then, it’s been duo after duo.
2019’s “The Irishman” earned comeback nominations for Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. The subsequent year, Oscar voters threw a curveball by nominating both Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield — aka the people who played the title characters of “Judas and the Black Messiah” — in supporting.

Horror Film School is a new feature in which talent in front of and behind the camera share the ins and outs of creating the biggest onscreen scares.
Creative duo Lee Roy Kunz and Cru Ennis wrote and directed the religious indie horror film “Deliver Us,” which was just released in select theaters and VOD. The story — a nun mysteriously gets pregnant with twins and is investigated by a representative of the Vatican (played by Kunz), worried that one will be the Messiah and one will be the Antichrist — sounds like it would touch on many of the same ideas as other films released this year, such as “The Pope’s Exorcist” and the upcoming “The Exorcist: Believer.” But the visually-stirring work relies on impressive sets, creative camerawork, dynamic lighting and an appreciation for Biblical images in order to maintain a constant sense of fear and unease. Ahead of the European premiere of his psychologically disturbing supernatural thriller, Consecration, at FrightFest Glasgow 2023, director Chris Smith talks about the supernatural side of religion, filming in Scotland, and his encounter with a pregnant sheep.

Another FrightFest, another Chris Smith movie! Our destinies seem intertwined. Why has FrightFest always been a key component to your release strategy?
I feel very fortunate to have been brought into the FrightFest family. I was very lucky that my first film, Creep, was included and then I got very lucky with the dates of release of my subsequent films. Severance was shown the night before the festival started in 2006 and then of course there was the spectacular Premier for Triangle at the Empire Leicester Square. FrightFest has also shown Black Death and Detour. They didn’t bother with Get Santa but that’s their loss. FrightFest is the best audience for any director.

The movie’s high-profile cast includes Omar Sy, Rj Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Teyana Taylor, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Additional cast includes Caleb McLaughlin, Babs Olusanmokun, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Nicholas Pinnock, Micheal Ward, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.

The Legendary Pictures film will reteam Samuel with Academy Award nominee Lakeith Stanfield in the title role as well as Omar Sy, Rj Cyler, BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, BAFTA winner James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Teyana Taylor, BAFTA nominee David Oyelowo, Oscar and BAFTA nominee Alfre Woodard and Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

"Dune: Part Two" is coming -- and things are about to get more intense. The first part of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic was faithfully brought to life on the silver screen in Denis Villeneuve's breathtaking adaptation in late 2021. The sequel -- slated to release on November 3 in cinemas worldwide -- is currently in the works. In addition to returning stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux are also along for the ride this time around.
Set in the distant future amid a feudal intergalactic society, "Dune" tells the story of young Paul Atreides (Chalamet), whose family accepts the stewardship of the planetary fief Arrakis. A desert planet with extremely harsh weather conditions and colossal monsters in sandworms, Arrakis is the only planet in the galaxy that possesses "spice," a psychotropic drug that allows for interstellar travel.

In Ridley Scott's 1979 film "Alien," the sinister android Ash (Ian Holm) describes the killer creature loose aboard his spaceship as "the perfect organism," admitting that its "structural perfection is matched only by its hostility." He also says that he admires its purity. The alien is "a survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality." Little else is revealed about the xenomorphs in that original film, with the murderous alien remaining very, well, alien. The one detail that Ash seems to drop is that the creature could be harvested as an invasive species intended for combat purposes.
The notion that the xenomorphs are a pure destructive force -- a life-form that only exists to take lives -- is one that runs throughout multiple "Alien" sequels. In James Cameron's 1986 follow-up "Aliens," for instance, Paul Reiser plays a suspicious wonk for a mysterious company that aims to gather and weaponize...

Exclusive: Saladin Ahmed (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) has partnered with filmmakers Shaka King (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Travon Free (Two Distant Strangers) to create Drac: Son of Dante—a new, 15-part webcomic series for Tapas Media and Endeavor Content, which is now free to read exclusively via the former company’s website and mobile app. The series’ first two episodes have already launched, with more to come weekly on Fridays.
Drac is said to introduce a new and contemporary mythology around the origins of the iconic goth villain Dracula that will resonate with multicultural and youth audiences alike. The narrative follows Dante, an eerie, flute-playing immortal who finds himself drawn to the human condition against the natural order and better judgment of his species. Dante follows this obsession no matter how much trouble it gets him into — but a conflict for the ages erupts when his monstrous son Drac chooses a human bride.
