Following the success of their feature debut, the horror film Talk to Me, the directing duo of Danny and Michael Philippou signed on to make a new film adaptation of the Street Fighter video game franchise, started developing a Talk to Me sequel titled Talk 2 Me, and let it be known that they had already shot some sort of Talk to Me prequel (but it’s not clear if or when we’ll get to see that footage), had an action drama project they’d like to make, and also had a horror script called Bring Her Back that they wanted to get into production. The last film on that list is the one that’s going to be made first, and just last month we learned that two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins of The Shape of Water and Blue Jasmine has signed on to star in Bring Her Back.

Danny and Michael Philippou, the breakout directors of last year’s box office horror hit “Talk to Me,” are re-teaming with A24 on their next horror film, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. And this time they’re being paired with a two-time Oscar nominee.
Sally Hawkins will star in “Bring Her Back” from the Philippous, who are writing and directing the original movie for A24. Danny and Michael Philippou are also re-teaming with the producers on “Talk to Me,” Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton (“The Babadook”).
Plot details are being kept under wraps for “Bring Her Back,” but the film will begin production later this summer.

Last year's Talk To Me was a big breakout for sibling directorial duo Danny and Michael Philippou, who graduated from creative, crazed YouTube work to a horror hit for A24 ($92 million from a $4.5 million budget). Now the company is looking to stay in business with them, and Sally Hawkins is also attached to star in their latest effort Bring Her Back.
While Deadline reports that it's an original horror movie, the other details are remaining under wraps so far. There's not even mention of who wrote the script (though Danny Philipou was among those involved in Talk To Me's writing team), and we know that the film's producing duo Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton are back for the new one.

Although conversation may have momentarily shifted away from Paul King’s wonderful musical Wonka and over to the short-lived waking nightmare that was Glasgow’s Willy Wonka Experience, this prequel to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory has now come to streaming, so we can enjoy the taste all over again. As we mentioned at the time in our review, and our chats with director Paul King and producer David Heyman, it’s a good hearted, funny, and joyful romp. Timothée Chalamet is charming and captivating; Olivia Colman is wonderfully larger than life; Hugh Grant is grouchy and funny; and Sally Hawkins as Willy’s mum is… a terrible mother.
Chalamet’s Willy was raised by his mother and, as he explains to the young orphan Noodle (Calah Lane), his love of chocolate and invention came from her. He misses her throughout the film and hopes their shared love of chocolate...

Timothée Chalamet’s magical, musical candyman is coming to Max.
“Wonka” will make its streaming debut exclusively on Max on Friday, March 8, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Friday.
The movie — featuring Chalamet in the title role — tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, following him as a young man as he becomes “the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker,” per the studio. The family film co-stars Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
“Wonka” has surpassed $600 million at the global box office, on an estimated $125 million budget. The film is director Paul King’s highest-grossing film, surpassing 2014’s “Paddington” and its 2017 sequel. It is Chalamet’s biggest movie at the international box office, although Warner Bros.’s “Dune: Part Two,” which opens March 1, could surpass “Wonka.”

A fresh set of actors are about to be enrolled in what the film series cast cheekily nicknamed ‘the Harry Potter Pension plan’. US streamer Max’s plan to re-adapt the Potter books into a TV show running for 10 consecutive years and starting in 2025/6 should keep the lucky new cast in greasepaint and copies of The Stage indefinitely.
But who will they be? Lead characters Harry, Ron and Hermione will almost certainly be played by unknowns, but the Hogwarts ensemble – Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Hagrid and co. – will be picked from the current crop of British acting talent, just like their counterparts were over two decades ago. Who working today could follow in the footsteps of Sir Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Dame Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane and the rest?

Timothee Chalamet has scored the biggest grosser of his lifetime with Wonka. The film debuted in Korea on January 31, 2024, and knocked it out of the park. Warner Bros has just been blessed with the second biggest opening in the post-pandemic era. If that’s not enough, the live-action film has brought higher collections than Margot Robbie led Barbie in the overseas market. Scroll below for exciting updates!
For the unversed, Wonka is the third film made on the story of Willy Wonka. Previously, the tale was brought to the big screens by Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Johnny Depp‘s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). However, the Paul King directorial remains the biggest box office hit among all three films.

With the 2023 Oscar nominations now in hand, it’s clear that Margot Robbie’s exclusion from the best actress race, along with “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig’s director snub, has outraged the blockbuster film’s massive global fanbase. Oscar nominations for supporting players America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling haven’t calmed the social media fury over what is perceived by Robbie fans as an unfathomable and unforgivable oversight.
What everyone seems to be forgetting is that when it comes to Oscar love, especially for actors, Oscar voters annually choose spinach over sweets, meat and potatoes over champagne and caviar. They like their movies serious and meaningful, and their actors tortured by real world woes such as physical disabilities, addictions, mental illness and all the oppressions and injustices that our mad mad world has to offer.

For the second time in six years, the Best Actress category looked to be on track to feature nominees from films nominated for Best Picture. But just like six years ago, it came up short — and it once again involved Margot Robbie.
Annette Bening (“Nyad”), Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”) and Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) made the Best Actress cut on Tuesday. Every film but “Nyad” is nominated for Best Picture. Gladstone, Hüller, Mulligan and Stone were all expected to get in, but Bening was in seventh place in the odds. Now a five-time nominee, she made it in over Robbie, who was in fifth place in the odds and headlines Best Picture nominee “Barbie” (Robbie is nominated as producer).

One of the most daunting challenges of “Wonka” was coming up with the design of the fantastical chocolate shop at the centerpiece of Paul King’s origin story. In a way, it’s a forerunner of the famous chocolate factory with echoes of the chocolate room, boat, and chocolate river, which King channels from both the 1964 Roald Dahl novel (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) and the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder (“Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”).
However, it’s the invention of a crucial childhood memory that propels the journey of inventor, magician, and chocolatier Willy (Timothée Chalamet), who arrives in Europe to establish his chocolate shop at the Galeries Gourmet, only to run up against a ruthless chocolate cartel. But through a combination of creative ingenuity, heroic teamwork, and the most magical chocolate ever imagined, Willy manages to open his shop — at least temporarily.

Oompa loompa doopity doo — here is a box office opening for you. “Wonka” is off to a promising start in North America after earning $14.4 million across Friday and preview screenings. Playing in 4,203 locations, the prequel musical drawing from the twisted Roald Dahl character is also benefiting from golden ticket prices for premium large format auditoriums like Imax.
Heading into the weekend, “Wonka” was projecting a $35 million debut. It’d be a so-so start for the Warner Bros. release, which carries a hefty $125 million production budget and devoted more funds to a month-plus marketing spree (led by star Timothée Chalamet in the first fully-fledged promotional push for a feature since the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike).
The sweeter news for “Wonka” is that it’s coming in north of recent musical offerings that have floundered in theaters, such as Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” ($10.5 million opening) and Warner’s...

The Timothée Chalamet-led Wonka scored an opening day gross of $14.4 million from 4,203 theaters at the Friday box office, putting it on course to earn $38 million or more in its North American opening.
That’s a promising start for a musical, a genre that has struggled in recent times. From Warner Bros. and Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman, Wonka is a whimsical origin tale about the magical candyman Willy Wonka, who was played by Gene Wilder in the classic movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Audiences bestowed Wonka with an A- CinemaScore, while 60 percent of Friday ticket buyers were between the ages of 18 and 34. The largest quad was 18 to 24 at 33 percent, while another 10 percent of ticket buyers were between 13 and 17, underscoring Chalamet’s star status with younger moviegoers. Wonka is skewing slightly female so far, or 54 percent.

This post contains minor spoilers for "Wonka."
When Warner Bros. announced that they were going to make a prequel to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" focused on a young Willy Wonka, it felt like all of Hollywood's worst sensibilities wrapped in one neat little package. A seemingly unnecessary prequel driven by commercialism with a hip star -- in this case
Timothée Chalamet -- anchoring the whole thing to try and sell it to the masses. Yet, when "Paddington" director Paul King signed on to helm the project, it raised some eyebrows. Could the man beyond two of the most inescapably charming movies of the last decade work his magic here as well? The answer is largely yes. We're not here to discuss whether "Wonka" is as good as "Paddington" or anything like that, but it is worth pointing out that these movies do have a key element in common.

Everyone is losing their minds, and we can be silent no longer.
A few weeks ago, we saw a press screening of the new Timothée Chalamet-starring Willy Wonka prequel movie directed by Paul King. Timmy is doing his best, but for a work that is presumably suppose to be a light confection kids of all ages can enjoy we have…notes. There are so many straight up bizarre choices made over the course of its 116-minute running time. Phoning it in and cashing the checks this is not, but that doesn’t quite clarify some of the odder inclusions and subplots of this particular prequel.
What if, right now, we told you the perils of illiteracy are a recurring theme in the origin story of the famed chocolatier? What if we swore on all things sweet that you will learn absolutely nothing about the potentially magical elements of this fairy tale?...

Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker. After the Thursday preview box office totals arrived, it appears Warner Bros. Pictures‘ wallet is getting thicker! Wonka is off to a sweet start with $3.5M in previews from 3,500 locations. The candy-coated musical starring Timothée Chalamet expands to 4,203 theaters this weekend, with an estimated opening of $30M-$40M.
Wonka is one of three movies from Warners hitting theaters during the holiday season, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple occupying screens in the lead-up to Santa’s big night. Aquaman 2 could breach the box office with $45M-$50M during its four-day debut, with The Color Purple bowing on Christmas Day with $8 million. Marketing for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been odd, considering the James Wan sequel is DC’s final film before James Gunn and Peter Safran reboot the Dcu in 2025 with Superman: Legacy.

Marketing for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been odd, considering the James Wan sequel is DC’s final film before James Gunn and Peter Safran reboot the Dcu in 2025 with Superman: Legacy.

Spoilers for "Wonka" follow.
Director Paul King, best known for the "Paddington" movies, chose to venture away from the terribly kind Peruvian bear for a journey into the world of author Roald Dahl. "Wonka" focuses on an origin story inspired by "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," the book that was previously turned into the 1971 classic film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with Gene Wilder as the eccentric chocolatier, as well as Tim Burton's take on the material in 2005 with Johnny Depp donning the top hat. This time, it's Timothée Chalamet as a young Willy Wonka, who is looking to open up his own chocolate shop in honor of his late mother (Sally Hawkins), the woman responsible for his love of chocolate.
In "Wonka," the candyman faces a variety of challenges, including his own naivete. But the biggest hurdle is the chocolate cartel, a trio of professional candy makers...

Plot: The origins of young Willy Wonka (Timothée Chalamet), who arrives in a city known for its chocolate with the dream of becoming a master chocolatier.
Review: I’ll admit something – I wasn’t all that keen on watching Wonka. While I have a soft spot for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, mainly due to Gene Wilder’s terrific performance in the lead, an origin story starring Timothee Chalamet seemed a touch too whimsical. Yet, the film inarguably has an ace up its sleeve in director Paul King, who proved with the first two Paddington films that he’s a master of so-called whimsy.
The film, which is a full-blown musical, really does cast a spell thanks mainly to the fact that Chalamet hits precisely the right note with his Willy Wonka. He’s doing Gene Wilder here, with no trace of Johnny Depp’s performance from the Tim Burton...

“Wonka,” a look at the early days of a wacky chocolatier, debuted to $3.5 million in Thursday previews.
The family film is hoping to become a holiday favorite for moviegoers with kids. To that end, Warner Bros., the studio behind the $125 million confection, is betting that the movie shows some impressive endurance, continuing to attract crowds in the market for some PG-rated fare when schools close down next week. It’s on track to open to roughly $35 million this weekend. Its Thursday preview results are exactly the same as those for 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” — that film earned just over $35 million in its inaugural weekend and topped out at just under $200 million domestically.
Timothée Chalamet, last seen discovering that “fear is the mind killer” in “Dune” and acquiring a taste for human flesh in “Bones and All,” gets to flex his cuddly side as Willy Wonka, a role previously played...
