Candace Cameron Bure is no longer solving mysteries as Aurora Teagarden. Now, she’s Ainsley McGregor.
On Tuesday, Great American Family announced they will soon launch Great American Mysteries — following closely in the footsteps of Hallmark, which also has Hallmark Movies & Mysteries under its umbrella. Gaf’s first mystery film franchise will be “Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker,” starring Bure, Aaron Ashmore and Bj Harrison. The series will be adapted from Candace Havens’ book of the same name.
Great American Mysteries will feature “thrilling whodunnits featuring beloved Great American Family stars and the network will announce more new original mystery movie series in the next few weeks,” per Tuesday’s press release. Exclusive: Great American Family wants to inject a little mystery into its storytelling.
The network that says it offers content that celebrates family, faith, and country is launching Great American Mysteries, a movie franchise that will star Great American talent. It’s a proven strategy that was first tested at Hallmark, where Crown Media’s former CEO Bill Abbott — who now serves as CEO of Gac Media — oversaw the 2014 rebranding of Hallmark Movie Channel to Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
The first movie in the Great American Mysteries series is The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker starring Candace Cameron Bure and Aaron Ashmore (Ginny & Georgia). Adapted from bestselling novelist Candace Havens’ book of the same name, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker follows Ainsley McGregor (Bure), a former Chicago criminologist who returns to her hometown of Sweet River, Texas. Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episodes 505 and 506 of Netflix’s Virgin River.
Virgin River‘s seasons are typically built around three tentpoles, the season premiere, the finale and a big event episode in the middle that propels the storytelling with plenty of aftermath to deal with in the remaining episodes. Big town events in the mid-run episodes have included the Moonlight Mingle dance in Season 1, the Lumberjack Games in Season 3 and the Renaissance Fair in Season 4. In Season 5, which marked the first for the hit Netflix series with new showrunner Patrick Sean Smith at the helm, a wildfire threatening the town of Virgin River. Because of the scope, it took two episodes — 5 and 6 — to deal with the natural disaster and its immediate aftermath.
During the episodes, still reeling from being ousted as the town’s mayor, Hope (Annette O’Toole) rises to the challenge and leads the evacuation efforts.

"I think between the two of us, we can figure out what happened to him quicker than the cops." Mpca has unveiled an official trailer for Double Life, a mystery thriller made by Canadian filmmaker Martin Wood. Another of these forgettable films that is just being quickly dumped on VOD as more mindless content to consume. The film follows a widow who finds out from her late husband's mistress that his death was not an accident. The two women will form an unlikely alliance to uncover the truth behind his murder and unmask the man they both loved. Of course they're going to end up deeply in trouble way over their heads. Double Life stars Javicia Leslie, Pascale Hutton, Vincent Gale, John Cassini, Aaron Douglas, and Niall Matter. Everything about this looks obvious and cliche, and the twist probably isn't going to be memorable. // Continue Reading ›...

Your prayers have been answered, “Virgin River” fans: The romance series has scored a two-season pickup, being renewed for both Seasons 4 and 5 at Netflix, the streaming service said Monday.
Starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, “Virgin River” tells the love story of Mel Monroe (Breckenridge), who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River, thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind.
Per Netflix, the 10-episode third season of the romance series, which launched in July, “left fans with more questions about the residents of this small town after a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane and a new romance.”
Looks like with at least two more seasons to go, those fans will be getting answers — hopefully — and lots and lots more loving between Jack (Henderson) and Mel.

Netflix dropped the trailer for the third season of its romance series “Virgin River” on Friday, revealing Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) fate after the Season 2 finale ended with him bleeding out from a gunshot wound on the floor next to Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge).
Luckily, the video shows us almost immediately that Jack is Ok, but he is going to need some downtime to recover from the injury and Mel is the biggest supporter of him staying in bed — for medical reasons and romantic ones.
Yes, these two lovebirds are finally, officially in a real relationship, which means things are about to get complicated in a different way, as the topic of having a baby together comes up between them — and pretty much everyone else in town. Mel might want to, but she’s obviously still traumatized by the death of her family. Jack might not want to...

Drama, drama, drama: “Virgin River” has been renewed for a third season, Netflix said on Friday.
That news means we’ll get some payoff on those Season 2 cliffhangers, like Jack (Martin Henderson) being shot, the whole Paige/Michelle’s (Lexa Doig) dead-husband’s-twin-brother thing, a child-sized wrench being thrown in Preacher’s (Colin Lawrence) plans to move to San Francisco and become a fancy chef and Doc (Tim Matheson) getting some mysterious — and seemingly bad — health news from another doc in another town.
Yeah, it’s A Lot.
No premiere date has been set for the upcoming Season 3. The second season debuted on Netflix on Nov. 27.
“Virgin River” follows a recently widowed big-city nurse (Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves to the redwood forests of northern California, where she meets an intriguing man (Henderson).
The series also stars Lauren Hammersley and Annette O’Toole. Joining the cast for Season 3 will be Zibby Allen and Stacey Farber.

"Just give me 24 hours to show you what we do here." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an odd romantic comedy titled Operation Christmas Drop, from Canadian TV director Martin Wood. While gathering evidence as a congressional aide to support closing a tropical U.S. Air Force base, a by-the-book congressional aide warms to its big-hearted captain. The pilot's pet project — Operation: Christmas Drop, a genuine, decades-old tradition where gifts and supplies are parachuted to residents of remote neighboring islands — has lawmakers wondering if his unit has too much spare energy. But of course - surprise! It's not such a bad thing after all. This stars Kat Graham, Alexander Ludwig, Aaron Douglas, and Virginia Madsen. It looks so extremely cheesy it's hard to watch, and it really looks like the Pentagon's propaganda department wrote the script. It's sweet, sure, but so obvious and expected, we all know how it's going to end.

Rebecca Romijn is all for Jerry O’Connell taking a permanent spot on Live with Kelly — but not without a fair trade.
“I think he’d be very good. … If Kelly gets Jerry, I get Mark Consuelos,” Romijn told People Now.
O’Connell, 42, has sat in the chair next to Ripa several time since former co-host Michael Strahan left the show. The actor has also voiced his desire to join the show for good, though he previously told People that his “vote is with Andy Cohen” if he had to choose someone else to co-host.

It looks like our summer is shaping up very nicely, thanks to some excellent scheduling by The Powers That Be. At least our weekends will be taken care of. True Blood will almost certainly return in its usual Sunday at 9/8c slot, so there’s Sunday sorted. We told you earlier today that Zero Hour will be airing Saturdays at 8/7c, which fits in perfectly with this latest scheduling announcement: Primeval: New World will be airing Saturdays at 9/8c, followed by Sinbad at 10/9c on Syfy.
You may recall that we told you about the Syfy pickup of Primeval: New World back in October. You’ll recognize it as a spinoff from the original Primeval which aired here originally on BBC America. You’ll also recognize the star, Niall Matter, as Zane from the late great Eureka. Primeval: New World is another series acquired by Syfy from our pals up in Canada,...

We have been reading, longingly, about the upcoming Canadian spinoff of the UK dinosaurs-in-the-modern-world series Primeval entitled Primeval: New World. We thought it would be fun. Then when we heard Niall Matter (Zane on Eureka) had been cast, we got even more jealous of our northern neighbors. Then when we heard it would be promoted as “darker and scarier” than the original series from whence it sprung, it sounded right up our alley. But since it wasn’t literally up Our alley, we sat and stewed.
But that is all behind us now as we rejoice over today’s announcement that Syfy has picked up the series for the U.S. market. First we have a trailer for you to check out, so that you can be as excited as we are, before getting to the details of the press release:

The deals were made by Entertainment One, which distributes the series produced by Omnifilm Entertainment. Sanctuary Cancelled, Syfy Confirms
Put this one in the 'for those who held out false hope' column, Syfy has confirmed that Sanctuary is indeed cancelled. It became obvious that a renewal was not going to happen when the announcement of Sanctuary's fate dragged on well past the typical renewal/cancellation window. Then there is the fact that Syfy turned over the show's production space in Canada to another show. That was telling. Now, Craig Engler has taken to twitter to confirm what fans feared:
Engler was referring to the comments by Mark Stern, President, Syfy Original Content and Co-Head, Universal Cable Productions, who said: “We’re honored to have been part of this incredible series. In addition to garnering unmatched devotion by fans worldwide, Sanctuary was a bona fide trailblazer, setting new standards with its highly innovative production techniques – including pioneering green screen and Red camera technology – and Emmy-nominated visual effects.
