Before The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Six Feet Under, The Wire, or any of the other popular HBO shows, there was Oz. The one-hour drama chronicled the lives of the staff and inmates at the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum security penitentiary home to the most violent offenders in the state. It’s been over twenty years since the series concluded, but creator Tom Fontana is back with an Oz short film starring Lee Tergesen as Tobias Beecher and Dean Winters as Ryan O’Reily.
Titled Zo, the short film actually premiered at the Atx Festival in 2021, but few people were able to see it. Thankfully, Zo will premiere on YouTube on May 1st, giving fans around the world the chance to finally see it. According to Kirk Acevado, who starred in Oz as Miguel Alvarez, it could even lead to a sequel series if the short film gets enough buzz.

It's rare when a show seemingly comes out of nowhere and grabs ahold of you. From Season 1 was such an experience.
It was a perfect blend of mystery, horror, and young lore, which made for a perfect watch. It was elevated by performances from all corners, led by the incomparable Harold Perrineau.
From took everything that makes the genre appealing and put a unique spin on it.
One of the sticking points was the fact that there were a lot of mysteries, which felt justified since we joined the town's residents at a time when they hadn't learned much about the circumstances surrounding the town's status quo.
In a way, it felt like we were right there in the throes with them as they tried to survive another night, fighting the monsters from the outside, those inside of themselves in them, and those in their midst.

Being Canadian is an odd experience for those who have never tried it. It can teach you humility and pride at the same time, and how to deal with disappointment come NHL playoff time. Yet Canadians, compared to Americans, will always be viewed as the “Prince Harry” on the global stage (if you’ll forgive the colonized-metaphor). Canadians are cuter, perhaps slightly more politically correct, but ultimately not seen as important as their big brother.

MGM+‘s From Season 2 has officially come to a close with an ending that solves some mysteries while leaving us with several others. Boyd (Harold Perrineau) freed the consciousness of some of his townsfolk after finding a way back to the mysterious dimension he found himself in at the start of the season. But in a shocking turn of events, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) was pushed out a window and woke up in a hospital outside of the town. Perrineau talks about the Season 2 ending and some lingering questions for the future and provides an update on a potential Season 3. What’s up with Martin (Robert Verlaque), who saved you from the well? Does his role play a role in Boyd and his future? Obviously, we see him pass the infection, but is he the new Martin now? Harold Perrineau: No. I just think Martin is the person who lets...

With “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” comes the culmination of a story more than two decades in the making. The journey through multiple movies to Peacock’s current limited series allow a feature film’s worth of main characters to find closure.
As with all productions, the series had a slew of challenges. A scene aboard a beautiful yacht in the Dominican Republic put the team to the test when the floating location’s mechanical problems put it out of commission the day before a 5:30 a.m. crew call.
While there may be yachts in a harbor, it doesn’t mean wealthy owners want to rent them to a production. So securing another one at the last minute...

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. There’s a long history of great actors who have never won an Emmy Award. Hugh Laurie has a total of 10 Emmy nominations with zero wins for his work but the most glaring oversight is that after six nominations for his iconic role on “House” he never took home the prize. But that’s nothing compared to Angela Lansbury, who went home empty-handed a whopping 18 times. But they’re in good company – including the likes of Jackie Gleason, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Phylicia Rashad.
With Emmy voting starting, I wanted to highlight some shows and performances that have so far gone overlooked by the Emmy Awards. Most of the programs I chose have been completely shut out by the Academy.

ABC‘s Lost was a massive hit in the early 2000s, ushering in a change in the landscape of network television. Yet, the behind-the-scenes was filled with drama, with several former writers and stars now speaking out about the alleged “toxic” work environment. The claims come from Maureen Ryan‘s new book Burn It Down, Power, Complicity and A Call For Change in Hollywood (out June 6), an excerpt from which was published in Vanity Fair. In the section, Ryan speaks with many of the show’s former writers and actors, including Harold Perrineau, who played Michael Dawson on the Emmy-winning series. Perrineau talked about how he was uncomfortable with an episode in Season 2 where Michael didn’t seem to care about the whereabouts of his son Walt (Malcolm David Kelley) after he was kidnapped and how the episode instead focused on Josh Holloway‘s Sawyer. “I can’t be another...

Vanity Fair has published an excerpt from a new book examining Hollywood’s corrosive culture rips the lid off “Lost”, revealing a shocking pattern of toxic behaviour behind the scenes of the hit series.
In a chapter from the upcoming book Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood, Vanity Fair contributor Maureen Ryan spoke with writers and cast members across all six seasons, including cast member Harold Perrineau and writer Monica Owusu-Breen, both of whom are Black.
According to a “Lost” writer, members of the writing staff were instructed to focus on the “hero characters,” who were Locke (Terry O’Quinn), Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) — all white characters. When Perrineau questioned his character’s storyline in relation to the white characters, he claimed that a “Lost” producer told him, “Well, this is just how audiences follow stories,” and those characters were “relatable.

A new book by Maureen Ryan that seeks to expose “patterns of harassment and bias in Hollywood” takes aim at the writers room of Lost, where executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are accused of maintaining a culture of toxicity on the hit ABC drama.
In an excerpt from Burn It Down, Power, Complicity and A Call For Change in Hollywood (out June 6) in Vanity Fair, Ryan interviews several people from the long-running drama that aired from 2004 to 2010. Those who did speak on the record, including writer Monica Owusu-Breen, recalled an environment rife with bullying and inappropriate comments about race.
“All I wanted to do was write some really cool episodes of a cool show. That was an impossibility on that staff,” said Owusu-Breen, who worked on Lost’s third season. “There was no way to navigate that situation. Part of it was they really didn’t like their characters of color.

“Lost” showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse confront several accusations of racism, toxicity and more that allegedly occurred during the making of the ABC hit series in Maureen Ryan’s new book, “Burn It Down,” an excerpt of which has been published on Vanity Fair’s website. In the excerpt, Lindelof admits that he “failed” in regards to providing “safety and comfort” in the show’s writers’ room.
Several writers and actors spoke to Ryan about the alleged toxic work environment on “Lost,” which ran for six seasons on ABC from 2004-2010. “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof is addressing allegations of racism during the six seasons the ABC series ran.
The Emmy-winning ensemble series centered on the survivors of a surreal plane crash and ran from 2004 to 2010. Josh Holloway, Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Naveen Andrews, Daniel Dae Kim, and Harold Perrineau were among the core cast members.
In an excerpt from Maureen Ryan’s upcoming book “Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood,” as published by Vanity Fair, Lindelof responded to claims of racial bias on the creative, with allegedly racist remarks behind the scenes that seemed to affect plotlines, including the exit of single father Michael (Perrineau).
“My level of fundamental inexperience as a manager and a boss, my role as someone who was supposed to model a climate of creative danger and risk-taking but provide safety and comfort inside of the creative process — I failed in that endeavor,...

Rightfully considered cultural touchstones, "The Sopranos" and "The Wire" began a new era in television that continues on to this day. Arguably though, given how large those shows loom in the zeitgeist, "Oz" lost its significance in television history somewhere along the way. However, without this prison soap opera, those seminal shows don't find their footing.
From 1997 to 2003, HBO's "Oz" told the story of Oswald State Correctional Facility, a fictional maximum security prison located in New York. The penitentiary, nicknamed Oz, includes an experimental unit, Emerald City, that seeks to rehabilitate its inmates rather than punish them. A major source of tension within Em City derives from the religious and racial factions that naturally form in the unit with Latinos, African-Americans, Italians, Muslims, and members of the Aryan Nation living together in close quarters. Across six seasons, the series presents a horrific look at prison life with acts of ultra-violence,...
